Boys Lacrosse
The Penn Yan boys lacrosse team ended the season with a 13-8 record after falling to Marcellus in the New York State Public High School Athletic Association semifinal game, Friday, June 9. The game had originally been scheduled for Wednesday last week, but air quality concerns caused by wildfires in Canada and smoke and haze across much of the northeast caused the state to postpone play.
During the game at Tompkins Cortland Community College, the teams traded goals but Marcellus stayed on top, going 2-1 in the first, 4-3 in the second, 6-5 at the end of the third and to a final score of 7-6. Penn Yan tied the game at six with just over a minute to play, but Marcellus answered with a quick goal to go ahead and advance to the final game. Cold Spring Harbor ended up winning the state title for Class D by beating Marcellus 12-5 on Sunday.
Teagan Fingar recorded one goal and two assists in the game. Bryant VanHousen added one goal and one assist. Also contributing were Caden Dixon, Carter Earl, Tukker Fisher and Frank Ochoa with one goal.  Braden Fingar also had an assist. Will Thompson made 10 saves in the goal.

The New York State Public High School Athletic Association championships were held last weekend at Middletown high school. Athletes from Penn Yan and  Dundee-Bradford attended.
Penn Yan’s James Tette was 26th overall and eighth in division two for the 3,200 meter run. He was also 13th overall and fifth for division two competing in the 3,000 meter steeplechase.
Dundee-Bradford’s Hayden Erick was 10th in the triple jump for division two. Logan Buchanan took 21st overall in the high jump and was 11th for division two. Lily Hall finished 11th in division two for the girls triple jump.

The Penn Yan girls lacrosse team fell to an excellent Bronxville squad in the New York state semi-final game at Cortland high school, Friday, June 9. While the Mustangs scored first, Bronxville posted 13 goals in the first half and five in the second to win the game 18-8.
Bailey Cooper led the team with three goals and one assist. Taylor Mullins and Maihue Miranda-Wiltberger both contributed two goals and one assist.  Makenna Mullins had one goal and Corinne Barden assisted twice.
