Penn Yan-Dundee concludes a perfect season
SENECA FALLS--The Penn Yan-Dundee football team traveled to Mynderse Academy to face Palmyra-Macedon for the Wayne-Finger Lakes Independent Championship, Friday, Nov. 15.
The Scottish Mustangs defeated the Red Raiders, 50-42, and ended the season with a perfect 10-0 record. Sectional competition was not available for independent teams this year, so the league championship concludes a successful year that only sees six seniors graduating.
The game was the closest Penn Yan-Dundee has experienced this year, with several momentum shifts that give trailing Pal-Mac optimism to dethrone the top-seed and capture their second championship. However, the Scottish Mustangs were able to deliver on offense and maintain pressure on defense to force mistakes and earn the win.
Leading the relentless offensive charge for PY-D was Braden Fingar with 24 carries for 197 yards and four touchdowns. Quarterback Eli Raplee posted four carries for 32 yards and a touchdown. He also had two passes for 87 yards and a touchdown. Aven Foster made two catches for 87 yards and a touchdown.
On defense, there were four interceptions: one each by Foster, Raplee, Fingar and Enzo D'Amico. Foster returned the catch for a touchdown and had six tackles on the day. Raplee earned seven tackles, while Fingar contributed nine.
Senior Tony Sciallo added four tackles and was all over the Pal-Mac quarterback with three pressures and two sacks.
Clayton Tremaine (sportsmanship award), Gavin Hall (lineman award), Raplee (offensive award), Fingar (MVP) and Sciallo (defensive award) were recognized post-game for their contributions in the championship.
