Wrestling
The second annual New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) Girls Wrestling Invitational was held in the SRC Arena at Onondaga Community College, Friday, Jan. 26.
Dundee-Bradford's standout ninth grader Peyton Mullin opened the tournament by defeating Kittery VanGuilder with a pin in 1:14. The second match was against Alexis Durdon who she pinned in 3:03 and followed that up with a pin of Patricia Deslandes in 0:50. In the final match, Mullin defeated Mackenzie LaForest of Waverly by pinning her in 1:05 for the state title.
Dundee Athletic Director Scott Shepardson explained, "What makes this title even more special than being a state champion is that there are no classifications for girls wrestling. In soccer, we would compete against schools of a similar size at the sectional and state level. In girls wrestling, everyone is in the same classification regardless of school size so it’s Dundee vs. every school in the state."
On the way back to the school on Friday night, a fire department escort brought Mullin and a long car-pool of supporters into town. After news of the parade was shared on social media, supporters waited on the sidewalk to welcome Dundee's first state champion.
Boys Basketball
The Dundee-Bradford boys basketball team lost to Honeoye, Thursday, Jan. 25. The final score was 45-39. Aidan Webster and Chris Clancey both had 10 points in the game.
Girls Basketball
The Dundee-Bradford girls basketball team won against HAC, Monday, Jan. 22. The final score was 66-33. Kendall Parker scored 20 points and Kailey Yeoman posted 17. Bruna Crespo added 14 points.
Bowling
The Dundee-Bradford boys and girls bowling teams hosted Honeoye, Thursday, Jan. 25. Both teams posted wins. McKenna Miller had a game-high 166 and Ethan Farrow led the boys with a game-high 192.
Indoor Track
The Dundee-Bradford indoor track team participated in the league championships at RIT, Saturday, Jan. 27.
Top finishers included: Madison Hughes (first - long jump, third - 55 meter dash), Peyton Mullin (first - shot put), Brayden Rider (fifth - 55 meter hurdles, fourth - shot put), Logan Curtis (fourth - long jump, fourth - triple jump) and Ryan Longmore (third - shot put).
Penn Yan
Bowling
The Penn Yan Mustangs traveled to Rose Bowl Lanes in Newark to face the Midlakes Eagles, Thursday, Jan. 25. The girls team squeaked out a win over the Eagles and took all five points. The boys lost game one and then rallied to take four points.
The girls remain undefeated at 12-0, after nine league and three non-league matches. The boys are 7-2 in league competitions and 3-0 in non-league contests.
Julia Maldonado led the girls with a 541 series and Chloe Hinkal had a 521 series. The boys were led by Colin Johnson with a 636 series and Connor Andersen with a 602 series.
The Mustangs also faced Geneva last week, both winning 5-0. Maldonado recorded a 631 for the girls and Jaxon Jensen led the boys with a 626.
Hammondsport
Boys Basketball
The Hammondsport boys basketball team won against Addison, 50-43, Friday, Jan. 26. The team lost to Jasper-Troupsburg, Wednesday, Jan. 24. The final score was 64-42. The Lakers also lost to South Seneca, 61-57, Monday, Jan. 22.
Girls Basketball
The Hammondsport girls basketball team fell to Jasper-Troupsburg, 47-46, Thursday, Jan. 25. The team defeated South Seneca, 69-48, Monday, Jan. 22.
Watkins Glen
Boys Basketball
The Watkins Glen boys basketball team won against Newark Valley on a last-second shot by Ryan Willett, Friday, Jan. 26. The final score was 60-58. Willett had 26 points and five rebounds in the game. Christopher Simiele added 11 points.
Girls Basketball
The Watkins Glen girls basketball team won against Dryden, Saturday, Jan. 27. The final score was 53-38.
The girls lost to Newark Valley, 52-23, Friday, Jan. 26. Vickio had seven points and Emma Cady recorded four.
Swimming (WG&O-M)
The Schuyler Storm won against Lansing, 104-76, Thursday, Jan. 25. Vinnie Ocasio had three first place finishes and one second. Liam Smith also had three wins with one second place.
Indoor Track
The Watkins Glen indoor track team competed in the Section IV Class Championships at SUNY Cortland, Saturday, Jan. 27. Madison Tuttle was first in the girls 1,500 meter race walk with a time of 7:45.97.
Odessa-Montour
Wrestling (O-M&WG)
The Odessa-Montour and Watkins Glen wrestling team hosted two meets on Wednesday, Jan. 24 against Binghamton and Lansing. They won them both.
Against Binghamton the team won 33-27 with competitive wins by: Ean Walsh (pin 2:51), Patrick Croft (pin 0:29), Lucas Hoffman (decision 6-3) and Jared Watson (pin 5:20).
The team defeated Lansing 48-18. Kaiden Karius (pin 1:33), Walsh (pin 1:08),
Dana Guild (pin 0:47), Hoffman (pin 1:24) and Jaymes Forker (pin 4:15) all had competitive wins.

The Odessa-Montour boys basketball team lost to Tioga 65-62, Friday, Jan. 26.
The boys fell to Newark Valley, Wednesday, Jan. 24. The final score was 61-57.
