Baseball
The Penn Yan baseball team claimed the school's first sectional title in 40 years, Saturday, May 27. Penn Yan defeated Haverling for the class B2 crown, 14-0. Junior Brady Bouchard threw a complete game shutout with 16 strikeouts and only allowing two hits. Junior Liam Chapman led the way offensively going 5-for-5, hitting the cycle, with three RBIs and five runs scored. Senior Riley Griffiths was 3-for-5 with a double and triple, including one RBI and two runs scored. Bouchard also was 3-for-5 and had a double with a run scored. Reed Bouchard added a double and two runs, going 2-for-3 on the day. Owen Bishop was also 2-for-3 for the Mustangs with a run scored. Gio D'Amico finished the game with two runs scored and was 1-for-3.
After the game, the MVPs were announced as Liam Chapman and Brady Bouchard.
The boys won over Le Roy, 6-5, Wednesday, May 24. Michael Layton had a walk-off base hit scoring Bishop from second.
According to coach Steve Bouchard, "Chapman led off the bottom of the seventh, trailing 5-3, with a solo home run to make it 5-4, Riley Griffiths drew a walk and then stole second and third, when Brady Bouchard hit a deep fly ball to right to score Griffiths and tie up the game at five. Reed Bouchard advanced to first following a dropped third strike but Bishop hit into a fielders choice with Bouchard being thrown out at second. With Bishop on first Tony Sciallo drew a two-out walk so with the winning run on second, Layton came up clutch with a walk-off single to put The Mustangs in the championship game."
Chapman was 3-for-4 in the game with two runs scored. Griffiths was 2-for-3 with a run scored.
Brady Emerson recorded six strikeouts on the mound.
The team also beat Dansville, 8-6, Monday, May 22. Bouchard notched 13 strikeouts in the game. Griffiths contributed three RBIs.
Boys Lacrosse
The Penn Yan boys lacrosse team will face Aquinas for the sectional championship, Wednesday, May 31 at 5 p.m.
The boys reached that game with a win over Marcus Whitman, 13-3, Saturday, May 27. Carter Earl, Teagan Fingar and Braden Fingar all had two goals and two assists. Bryant VanHousen contributed three goals and one assist. Frank Ochoa also had three goals. Will Thompson made 10 saves in the game.
The team won over Bloomfield-Honeoye, in the first round of sectionals, 19-1. VanHousen led with five goals and two assists. Ochoa and Teagan Fingar each had four goals and one assist. Thompson recorded three saves.
Girls Lacrosse
The Penn Yan girls lacrosse team will play for the sectional title, Tuesday, May 30 against Waterloo-Marcus Whitman.
The team advanced to that game with a win over Gananda-Marion at Keuka College, Wednesday, May 24. The final score was 18-3. Corinne Barden and Bailey Cooper each recorded four goals and three assists. Maihue Miranda-Wiltberger added three goals and two assists. Gianna Voigt posted three goals and one assist. Marion Wheeler made one save in the goal.
Softball
The Penn Yan softball team lost to Wellsville, 15-0, Thursday, May 25 in sectionals.
The team won over Attica in the first round of sectionals, Monday, May 22. The final score was 9-0. Giana Ficcaglia had 16 strikeouts on a two-hit game. Hailey Trank was 4-for-4 on the day at the plate, while Ficcaglia had a two-run homer.
Track and Field
Penn Yan track and field athletes competed at the Class B2-B3 championships at Attica, Saturday, May 27. Top finishers included: James Tette (first-1,600 meter run, 4:42.09; first-3,200 meter run, 10:26.42; first-3,000 meter steeplechase, 10:06.01) and Anthony Wheeler (second-800 meter run, second-1,600 meter run).
Boys Tennis
Penn Yan fell to Wayne in the sectional semifinal, Wednesday, May 24. The final score was 4-1. Nathaniel Chaffee-David Reid won their matchup.
The number three-seeded Penn Yan Mustangs topped sixth-seed North Rose-Wolcott, 4-1, Tuesday, May 23. Recording wins were Landon Spears, Joe Droney, Carson Nagpaul-Thomas Barden and Chaffee-Reid.
Dundee-Bradford
Track and Field
Dundee Central School hosted the Section V Class B4 meet, Friday, May 26. Several individual champions were crowned from Dundee-Bradford. Top finishers included:
Logan Buchanan (first-high jump, 6' 2"; first-long jump, 20' 11.25"), Hayden Erick (first-triple jump, 41' 10.5"; second-high jump; second-long jump), Kendall Parker (first-100 meter dash, 12.89; second-high jump), Lily Hall (first-triple jump, 35'; third-long jump), Peyton Mullin (second-shot put; second-discus), Camden Buchanan (third-triple jump) and Camden Rosemier (third-pentathlon).
Softball
The Dundee-Bradford softball team lost to Bolivar-Richburg, 5-0, in the Section V Class C2 finals, Saturday, May 27.
To advance to that game, the girls won over Caledonia-Mumford, 2-1, Thursday, May 25. Addie Kendall had six strikeouts on the mound. Morgan Sutryk, Mikayla Schoffner, Mckenna Miller and Kailey Yeoman each managed one hit in the game.
The BraveScots also won against Pavilion, Monday, May 22. The score was 11-1. Yeoman and Adalyn Tham each collected two hits to lead the team.

The Dundee-Bradford baseball team lost to York in the first round of Class C2 Sectionals, Sunday, May 21. The final score was 2-0.

Hammondsport competed in the sectional finals for class B5 at Canandaigua, Saturday, May 27. Top finishers included:
Emmy O'Neill (first-2,000 meter steeplechase, 7:54.45), the boys 4x800 relay team, second; the girls 4x100 team, third and Thomas Bendick (second-long jump).

The Hammondsport baseball team lost in sectionals to Northstar Christian Academy, Monday, May 22. The final score was 31-1.

The Hammondsport softball team lost to Northstar Christian Academy, 11-3, in the first round of sectionals, Tuesday, May 23.

The Watkins Glen and Odessa-Montour baseball team, the Schuyler Storm, defeated Bainbridge-Guilford, 6-4, in the Section IV Class C championship game, Friday, May 26. The game was played at Union-Endicott high school, and saw the six-seed Storm taking on the ninth-seeded Bobcats. Bainbridge-Guilford fell the top seed in the class, Trumansburg, in the quarterfinal of the tournament before also beating Union Springs. WG-OM advanced with wins over Unatego/Franklin and Thomas A. Edison.
Brady Cannon had four hits in the game with an RBI. Alex Holmes and Gunner Herrmann each recorded one hit.
Daniel Lewis struck out eight on the mound for the Storm.
The baseball team won over Edison, 12-8 and Unatego 2-0 to reach the finale.

Watkins Glen track athletes competed in the Section IV Class C meet, Wednesday, May 24. Top-five finishers included:

Victoria Brewster (first-100 meter dash, 12.73; first-long jump, 15' 8.75"; second-200 meter dash), Hannah Nolan (first-triple jump, 34' 6"; second-100 meter hurdles; third-400 meter hurdles), David Patterson (second-triple jump), Jackie Mace (fourth-pole vault), Lucas Barr (fourth-3,000 meter steeplechase), Jed Lynch (fourth-pole vault), Benjamin Campbell (fifth-3,200 meter run) and Connor Fiala (fifth-110 meter hurdles).
