Happy Holidays! The Observer and the REVIEW&EXPRESS each published a combined holiday edition with the dates of Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2024 and Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2024. There is not a new paper for Dec. 25. The next new edition is Wednesday, Jan. 1.
The office is closed on Monday, Dec. 23 and will reopen Thursday, Jan 2.

Penn Yan
Softball
The Penn Yan softball team fell to Fairport, 11-1, and Frontier Senior 15-2, in tournament play, Saturday, May 13.
The team also played Midlakes in a doubleheader winning the first game 3-2 and the second 3-1. Giana Ficcaglia recorded 14 strikeouts in nine innings of game one. She had 12 strikeouts in game two. In game one, Leah Prather was 4-for-5 and Hailey Trank 4-for-4 with a double. For game two, Abby Fischer was 4-for-4 and Bri Naprava had a double to score two runs.
The girls started the week with a win against Newark on Tuesday. The final score was 10-5. Ficcaglia was on the mound with 14 strikeouts. Prather, Trank and Ficcaglia all had doubles at the plate. Ficcaglia also added a triple.

Baseball
The Penn Yan baseball team fell to Geneva, 11-1, Saturday, May 13.
The team lost to Midlakes, Thursday, May 11. The final score was 3-0. Brady Bouchard threw for six innings with 14 strikeouts. Riley Griffiths, Tony Sciallo and Bouchard were all 1-for-3 at the plate.
The boys won against Newark, 3-2, Tuesday, May 9. Brady Emerson was the winning pitcher going five innings and having seven strikeouts. Mike Layton was 3-for-3 for the Mustangs. Owen Bishop was 1-for-3 with two runs scored. Liam Chapman and Sciallo each recorded an RBI.

Boys Lacrosse
The Penn Yan boys lacrosse team lost to Lake Shore in overtime, 6-5, Saturday, May 13.  Frank Ochoa had two goals in the game. Carter Earl recorded one goal and two assists.  Will Thompson made 12 saves in goal.
The boys lost to Fairport in the final seconds of the game at Penn Yan, Thursday, May 11. The final score was 8-7. Earl posted two goals and one assist. Ochoa added two goals and Braden Fingar had a goal and an assist. Thompson made 14 saves in the cage.

Girls Lacrosse
The Penn Yan girls lacrosse team lost to Mercy, Wednesday, May 10. The final score was 13-10. Bailey Cooper scored five goals and Corinne Barden recorded three and one assist. Marion Wheeler made six saves in goal.
The girls won big over Wayne, 16-2, Tuesday, May 9. Cooper led with six goals and one assist. Barden scored two goals and added four assists. Makenna Mullins also had two goals in the game. Wheeler recorded seven saves.

Track and Field
The Penn Yan track and field team participated at the South Seneca Invitational, Friday, May 12. The top five finishers for the Mustangs included Jenna Reynolds (second-3,000 meter run), Anthony Wheeler (fourth-400 meter dash, second-800 meter run), James Tette (first-1,600 meter run, first-3,200 meter run) and Anthony Sciallo (second-shot put, first-discus).
The boys were third overall and the girls were 14th.  

Boys Tennis
The Penn Yan tennis team faced Avoca-Prattsburgh, Wednesday, May 10 and won 4-1. The match brought their season record to 9-3.
Winning for the Mustangs were Kyle Wheeler, David Reid, Carson Nagpaul-Thomas Barden and Nathaniel Chaffee-Carter Hanley.

Dundee-Bradford
Softball
The Dundee-Bradford softball team won against Honeoye, 7-6, Friday, May 12. The girls tallied six runs in the sixth inning. The offensive onslaught was led by Addie Kendall, Madison Sutryk, Mckenna Miller and Morgan Sutryk, all sending runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning. Madison Sutryk sealed the game with a walk-off double.
The BraveScots won both games in a doubleheader against Red Jacket, Thursday, May 11. The first game was 18-0 and the second, 12-2. Addie Kendall recorded a no-hitter in the first game and Adalyn Tham also shut down the offense in the second with a no-hitter.
Kendall was also 3-for-3 at the plate for the BraveScots in the first game. Korrin Yeoman, Tham, Kendall and Kailey Yeoman all had two hits for the team in the second game.

Baseball
The Dundee-Bradford baseball team lost to Honeoye, 12-8, Friday, May 12. Eli Raplee was 2-for-3 with a home run and four RBIs. Jeremy Stiles was 2-for-4. Gabe Stiles had two RBIs. Stiles threw four and a third innings striking out one and giving up four runs. Chris Clancey pitched in relief and had four strikeouts.
The team also suffered a loss to Red Jacket, Thursday, May 11. The final score was 5-2. Bloomfield won over the BraveScots, 10-0, Monday, May 8.

Track and Field
The Dundee-Bradford track and field team competed at the South Seneca Invitational, Friday, May 12. Top-five finishers included Kendall Parker (third-100 meter dash, second-400 meter dash), Lily Hall (first-long jump, first-triple jump), Madison Hughes (fifth-long jump, third-triple jump), Peyton Mullin (second-shot put, fourth-discus), Alissa Eaves (third-pentathlon), Camden Buchanan (fourth-100 meter dash), boys 4x100 relay team-second, boys 4x400 relay-fifth, Logan Buchanan (second-high jump, fifth-long jump), Hayden Erick (second-long jump, second-triple jump) and Camden Rosemier (third-pentathlon).
The girls were second overall and the boys were fifth.  

Hammondsport
Baseball
The Hammondsport baseball team lost to Arkport-Canaseraga, 15-3, Thursday, May 11. The Lakers also fell to Canisteo-Greenwood 17-3, Tuesday and Avoca-Prattsburgh, 15-1, Monday.

Softball
The Hammondsport softball team lost to Avoca-Prattsburgh, 16-0, Friday, May 12. The team also lost to Arkport-Canaseraga (20-5), Canisteo-Greenwood/Jasper-Troupsburg (21-4) and Wayland-Cohocton (12-1), last week.

Track and Field
The Hammondsport track and field team competed at the South Seneca Invitational, Friday, May 12. The boys were sixth overall and the girls were eighth. Top five finishes were recorded by Emmy Neill (first-3,000 meter run, first-2,000 meter steeplechase), Loretta Oliver (fifth-100 hurdles, second-400 hurdles), the girls 4x100 relay team-fifth, the girls 4x400 relay-fourth, Luke Szathmary (first-100 meter dash, first-200 meter dash), Lucas Lampman (fourth-400 meter hurdles), boys 4x400 relay-second and the boys 4x800 relay-third.

Baseball
The Schuyler Storm baseball team lost to Corning-Painted Post, 5-2, Thursday, May 11. The team also fell to Edison, 12-5, Wednesday, May 10.

Watkins Glen
Softball
The Watkins Glen softball team lost to Spencer-Van Etten/Candor, 11-9, Wednesday, May 10.

Lacrosse
The Watkins Glen lacrosse team fell to Whitney Point, 16-2, Thursday, May 11. Nick D'Alleva and Nick Ritter each had a goal in the game. D'Alleva also contributed an assist.

Track and Field
The Watkins Glen track and field team competed at the South Seneca Invitational, Friday, May 12. Top finishers included Natalee Oliver (third-800 meter run), Rachel Vickio (first-discus), Skylar Lagramada (fourth-400 meter dash), Johnny VanScoyk (third-1,600 meter run) and Ross Pentz (fourth-shot put, third-discus).

Odessa-Montour
Track and Field
The Odessa-Montour track and field team competed at the Wellsville Invitational, Saturday, May 13. Top five finishers included Evelyn Zinger (fifth-3,000 meter run), Hannah Nolan (first-pentathlon), David Patterson (fourth-400 meter dash) and Lucas Barr (fourth-3,000 meter steeplechase).
