SPORTS RECAP: Week of 1-11-23

Watkins Glen
Boys Basketball
The Watkins Glen boys basketball team won over Whitney Point, 79-49, Friday, Jan. 6. Joseph Sutterby led the team with 24 points. Ryan Willett contributed 23. Jacob Yontz had 10 rebounds and five points.
The boys basketball team lost to Lansing, Tuesday, Jan. 3. The final score was 71-49. Yontz had 25 points in the game with eight rebounds. Willett had nine points.

Girls Basketball
The Watkins Glen girls basketball team defeated Whitney Point, Friday, Jan. 6. The final score was 42-14. Jenna Solomon recorded eight points and Addy Coolican added seven.
The girls team won over Lansing, 49-33, Tuesday, Jan. 3. Solomon had 18 points. Olivia King recorded 10 points.

Bowling
The Watkins Glen bowling teams both won over Lansing, Friday, Jan. 6. The girls captured the win with a 4-0 score. Alyiah Clink-Bentley had a 487, Aubrey Kellogg a 470 and Maisie Robertson a 459. Katie Cook added a 440 and Ava Cowan contributed a 432.
The boys won 3-1. Mykel Cody had a 591. Brett Cullen-Pike added a 578, while Corbin Groves added a 525.
The bowling teams split another pair of matches with Lansing, Thursday, Jan. 5. The girls won 4-0. Cowan paced the team with a 558. The boys fell 4-0. Cody was the top scorer with a 553.
The bowling teams lost to Union Springs/Port Byron, Wednesday, Jan. 4. Both teams fell 4-0.

Swimming
The Watkins Glen and Odessa-Montour boys swimming team hosted the Invitational in the Glen, Friday and Saturday last week. The Schuyler Storm finished seventh with 129 points. Shenendehowa (north of Albany) won the event with 484 points.
Vincent Ocasio was fifth in the 50 free and eighth in the 100 free. Liam Smith was ninth in the 500 free. The 200 yard freestyle relay was third and included Ocasio, Ryan Dean, Smith and Jon Spencer. The 400 yard freestyle relay team took ninth.
The swimming team also defeated Southern Cayuga 48-36, Tuesday, Jan. 3. First-place finishers included: the 200 medley relay team, Smith (200 free), Dean (200 IM and 500 free), Spencer (50 free and 100 free) and Caleb Reynolds (100 fly).

Odessa-Montour
Girls Basketball
The Odessa-Montour girls basketball team lost to Groton, 38-21, Friday, Jan. 6. Gina Gavich recorded nine points and Hannah Nolan had eight.
The girls lost to Southern Cayuga, 46-43, Tuesday, Jan. 3. Nolan and Keyonna Garrison each scored 13 points for the Grizzlies.

Boys Basketball
The Odessa-Montour boys basketball team fell to Groton, Friday, Jan. 6. The final score was 68-50.
The boys lost to Southern Cayuga, 75-53, Tuesday, Jan. 3.

Wrestling
The Odessa-Montour and Watkins Glen wrestling team went 5-0 at the duals tournament they hosted, Saturday, Jan. 7. Lucas Hoffman, Mark Waterman, Tristan Harrington, Jeremy Miller, Dana Guild and Aidan Summers all won every match.
The wrestling team defeated Groton, Wednesday, Jan. 4. The final score was 54-21. All victories were gained by forfeit.

Dundee-Bradford
Girls Basketball
The Dundee-Bradford girls basketball team defeated Harley-Allendale-Columbia, 43-18, Saturday, Jan. 7. Kendall Parker led with 26 points, six steals and four rebounds. Trisha Edmister added seven points with three steals. Kailey Yeoman contributed six points, eight steals and five rebounds. Mikayla Schoffner and Lily Hall each recorded 10 rebounds.
The girls won over Romulus, Thursday, Jan. 5. The final score was 59-28. Parker had 25 points with six rebounds and three steals. Yeoman added 16 points, seven rebounds and six steals. Schoffner led the team with nine rebounds.
The BraveScots opened the week with a win over Red Jacket 56-29, Tuesday, Jan. 3. Parker paced the team with 23 points, five rebounds and five steals. Brieonna Bayer had 10 points, while Schoffner grabbed 11 rebounds and scored four points.

Boys Basketball
The Dundee-Bradford boys basketball team lost to Red Jacket, 64-54, Wednesday, Jan. 4. Leading scorers for the BraveScots were Nick Slavick with 16 points and seven rebounds. Aidan Webster added 10 points and Ryan McTamney contributed seven points.

Indoor Track
The Dundee-Bradford indoor track team competed at RIT, Friday, Jan. 6. Recording top-five finishes were:
Madison Hughes was first in the long jump with a 16" 5.5".
Camden Buchanan was third in the 55 meter dash and the long jump.
The 4x200 meter relay team took third.
Hayden Erick recorded a fourth-place finish in the long jump.

Wrestling
The Dundee-Bradford wrestling team competed at the Odessa-Montour Duals, Saturday, Jan. 7. The team beat Thomas Edison, 48-18, but lost to Odessa-Montour and Horseheads.
Against TAE, competitive wins were recorded by Zachary Grant (pin 1:33), Dakota Holton (pin 1:08) and Logan Snyder (pin 1:09). Caden Hill, Gage Machuga, Caleb Bartlett and Gavin Hall all had pins in their matches against Horseheads.

Penn Yan
Girls Basketball
The Penn Yan girls basketball team won over Wayne on a buzzer-beating shot, 41-39, Friday, Jan. 6. No individual stats were available.
The team lost to Aquinas, 64-24, Tuesday, Jan. 3. Corinne Barden and Hailey Trank each had eight points. Bailey Cooper recorded six points. Trank also grabbed nine rebounds in the game.

Boys Basketball
The Penn Yan boys basketball team lost to Wayne, Friday, Jan. 6. The final score was 63-36. Liam Chapman had 12 points in the game.
The Mustangs fell to World of Inquiry in overtime, 63-60, Wednesday, Jan. 4. Tanyon Dunning and Chapman each had 18 points.

Indoor Track
The Penn Yan indoor track team participated in a meet at RIT, Friday, Jan. 6. Top-five finishers included:
James Tette was first in the 1,000 meter run in 2:52.07 and fifth in the 600 meter run.
Anthony Sciallo took second in the shot put.
Kyle Wheeler finished third in the 1,000 meter run.

Wrestling
The Penn Yan wrestling team competed at the Daryl Pierson Memorial Duals in East Rochester, Saturday, Jan. 7. Pittsford won the pool B competition and Webster Thomas went 5-0 on the day for the championship.
The wrestling team lost to North Rose-Wolcott, 39-36, Thursday, Jan. 5. Winning with pins in the match were Ty Conover, Jacob Eaves, Cullen Maher and Roark Castner.

Hammondsport
Girls Basketball
The Hammondsport girls varsity basketball team beat Jasper-Troupsburg, Friday, Jan. 6. The game score was 49-46.

Boys Basketball
The Hammondsport boys basketball team lost to Jasper-Troupsburg, Friday, Jan. 6. The final score was 72-24. The Lakers also lost to Mount Morris, 72-37, Wednesday, Jan. 4.

Wrestling (Avoca-Prattsburgh/Hammondsport)
The Avoca-Prattsburgh/Hammondsport wrestling team competed in the Red Jacket Invitational tournament, Saturday, Jan. 7. The team was sixth overall with 72.5 points. Pal-Mac was the winner with 224 points.
Nathan Young lost in the championship finals to Robert Armstrong for a second-place finish. Justin Palmer won the consolation final to take third over Morgan Miller. Orien Davis was fourth after losing the third-place match to Peyton Allgood..
