Happy Holidays! The Observer and the REVIEW&EXPRESS each published a combined holiday edition with the dates of Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2024 and Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2024. There is not a new paper for Dec. 25. The next new edition is Wednesday, Jan. 1.
The office is closed on Monday, Dec. 23 and will reopen Thursday, Jan 2.

SPORTS RECAP: Week of 1-4-23

Dundee-Bradford
Boys Basketball
The Dundee-Bradford boys basketball team defeated Wayland-Cohocton, 42-19, Wednesday, Dec. 28. Cam Rosmier led with 10 points. Aidan Webster had nine, Ryan McTamney eight and Logan Buchanan added eight points and eight rebounds.
The boys fell to Haverling, Tuesday, Dec. 27. The final score was 64-58. Rosemier contributed 21 points and seven rebounds. McTamney added 11 points in the game.

Girls Basketball
The Dundee-Bradford girls basketball team narrowly defeated Watkins Glen, 46-45, Wednesday, Dec. 21. Kendall Parker led with 13 points, 10 rebounds and seven steals. Kailey Yeoman added 12 points, six steals and five rebounds with five assists. Alissa Eaves had nine points.

Indoor Track
The indoor track team competed at RIT, Tuesday, Dec. 27.
Madison Hughes was first in the long jump with a 16' 1.25" result. She was also fourth in the triple jump.
Camden Buchanan took first in the boys long jump with a 19' 10.5" and was third in the 55 meter dash.
Hayden Erick finished third in the long jump.

Wrestling
The Dundee-Bradford wrestling team lost to Geneva in a match, Thursday, Dec. 29. The final score was 52-18. Connor Erick won with a pin in 0:10. Gage Machuga pinned his opponent in 3:45 and Gavin Hall captured a victory with a pin in 4:42.

Penn Yan
Boys Basketball
The Penn Yan boys basketball team fell to Canandaigua, Friday, Dec. 30. The final score was 45-37. Liam Chapman led with 16 points. Tanyon Dunning had 10.
The basketball team defeated World of Inquiry, 61-50, Wednesday, Dec. 28. Dunning recorded 20 points. Chapman had 15.

Girls Basketball
The Penn Yan girls basketball team lost to Wellsville, Thursday, Dec. 29. The final score was 54-27. Hailey Trank paced the team with eight points and five rebounds. Taylor Mullins contributed seven points and two steals. Bailey Cooper had six points and seven rebounds.
The basketball team lost to Newark Valley, 46-20, Wednesday, Dec. 28. Corinne Barden scored 13 points with three rebounds and two steals. Madisen Pierce had 11 rebounds.

Indoor Track
The indoor track team competed at RIT, Thursday, Dec. 29.
James Tette was first in the boys 3,200 meter run with a 10:08.44. Anthony Wheeler was fifth.
The boys 4x800 meter relay was fourth.
Anthony Sciallo was fourth in the shot put.

Hammondsport
Boys Basketball
The Hammondsport boys basketball team lost to Avoca/Prattsburgh, 112-43, Thursday, Dec. 22.

Girls Basketball
The Hammondsport girls basketball team lost to Avoca/Prattsburgh, Thursday, Dec. 22. The final score was 31-23.

Wrestling (Avoca-Prattsburgh/Hammondsport)
The wrestling team competed against Fillmore-Keshequa, and won 40-30, Wednesday, Dec. 21. Competitive victories were earned by: Jeremiah Robbins (default), Orien Davis (pin 1:10), Nathan Young (pin 2:30), Peyton Hoad (pin 0:21), Trent Lewis (pin 3:29) and Liam Bajus (major decision 16-4).

Watkins Glen
Boys Basketball
The Watkins Glen boys basketball team lost to Newfield, 75-37, Friday, Dec. 30 at the tournament hosted in Watkins Glen. Jacob Yontz paced the team with 16 points. Sam Caslin had seven.
The boys team defeated Windsor in the first round of the tournament, Thursday, Dec. 29. The final score was 64-49. Joe Sutterby had 20 points and Yontz 17. Ryan Willett added 12 points.

Girls Basketball
The Watkins Glen girls basketball team captured the title for the Melissa B. Wilson Memorial Tournament held in Watkins Glen, Wednesday, Dec. 28. The girls defeated Spencer-Van Etten 44-6. Rachel Vickio had 17 points in the game and was named the MVP of the tournament. Molly Coolican added eight points and Olivia King had six.
The basketball team opened the tournament with a win over South Seneca, 54-31, Tuesday, Dec. 27. Vickio recorded 16 points with eight steals. Jenna Solomon and Chelsea Parsons both had 10 points.

Swimming
The Watkins Glen and Odessa-Montour swimming team fell to Chenango Forks, 111-72, Thursday, Dec. 22. Winning in the match were: the 200 medley relay team, Liam Smith (200 IM and 500 free) and Ryan Dean (100 fly and 100 back).

Odessa-Montour
Boys Basketball
The Odessa-Montour boys basketball team won over Cowanesque Valley to capture the title for the Addison Holiday Tournament, Friday, Dec. 30. The final score was 52-45. Tyler Malnoske had 18 points in the title game and was the MVP.
The boys team defeated Campbell-Savona, 62-53, Thursday, Dec. 29 in the Addison tournament. Malnoske had 21 points.

Girls Basketball
The Odessa-Montour girls basketball team lost to Union Springs, 63-38, Thursday, Dec. 22. Gina Gavich scored 14 points in the game. Hannah Nolan had 10.

Wrestling
The Odessa-Montour and Watkins Glen wrestling team competed at the Mark Cody Duals, Wednesday, Dec. 28. The Schuyler Storm had a 3-2 record. Brandon Davis was the most outstanding wrestler with five wins in the meet..
