Happy Holidays! The Observer and the REVIEW&EXPRESS each published a combined holiday edition with the dates of Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2024 and Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2024. There is not a new paper for Dec. 25. The next new edition is Wednesday, Jan. 1.
The office is closed on Monday, Dec. 23 and will reopen Thursday, Jan 2.

SPORTS RECAP: Week of 11-9-22

Schuyler Storm
Swimming
The Watkins Glen and Odessa-Montour girls swimming team won the Section IV Class C title in their home pool, Saturday, Nov. 5. The Storm amassed 499 points compared to second place Chenango Forks 311.
The team had a number of first-place finishes including: the 200 yard medley relay team (Alannah Klemann, Faye Mooney, Emily Melveney, Thalia Marquez), 200 free - Marquez (state qualifier), 200 IM - Klemann (state qualifier), 100 free - Mooney (state qualifier), 500 free - Marquez (state qualifier), the 200 free relay team (Mooney, Kendra Fish, Klemann, Marquez), 100 backstroke - Klemann (state qualifier), 100 breaststroke - Mooney (state qualifier) and the 400 free relay team (Emily Melveney, Fish, Aubrey Klemann, Malina Butler).
Mooney was also recognized as the swimmer of the meet and was presented with a separate trophy at the conclusion of the event.
The state finals are on Nov. 18-19 at the Webster Aquatic Center.

Football
The combined Watkins Glen and Odessa-Montour football team defeated Lansing, 33-14, Saturday, Nov. 5. The win now matches the Schuyler Storm away again against Dryden, Friday, Nov. 11.
In beating the Bobcats, Thomas Snow recorded four touchdowns on 10 carries for 140 yards. Ryan Willett also scored a touchdown and had 14 carries for 76 yards. Bradley Gillis earned 122 yards on 12 rushes for the Storm.
Quarterback Daniel Lewis was 6-for-10 passing with 34 yards. Willett recorded four catches, Alex Holmes had one as did Gillis.
Snow also led the defense with 10 tackles. Gavin Lohmeyer made six.

Watkins Glen
Cross Country
The Watkins Glen cross country team competed at the sectional meet at Chenango Valley State Park, Thursday, Nov. 3. The boys were sixth in Class D. Johnny VanScoyk was 12th with a 18:43.4, Isaac Hendrickson took 19th in 19:05.3 and Aidan Maphis was 27th with a 19:52.2.

Penn Yan-Dundee Football
The combined Penn Yan and Dundee football team faced Attica in the Section V Class C semifinal game, Friday, Nov. 4. The final score was 25-7 with Attica moving on to the finals against East Rochester/Gananda this Saturday.
Scoring the touchdown for the Scottish Mustangs was Bryant Van Housen. Owen Bishop recorded the point-after.

Penn Yan
Cross Country
The Penn Yan cross country team competed at the Section V Class C cross country meet, Saturday, Nov. 5, at Letchworth State Park. The boys finished third overall with a first place, ninth, 15th, 42nd, 62nd, 65th and 68th finishing order of competitors.
James Tette led the field with a time of 16:19.0. Kyle Wheeler took ninth in 17:59.8 and Anthony Wheeler was 15th in 18:47.9.

Dundee-Bradford
Cross Country
The Dundee-Bradford cross country team had three runners compete at the sectional match, Saturday, Nov. 5. Braedyn Fisher was 149th in 23:43.5 and Bryten Dunham was 153rd with a time of 24:00.4 in the boys race. Marley Duffy took 87th for the girls with a time of 25:33.5.


Hammondsport
Cross Country
The Hammondsport cross country team participated in the Section V Class D meet at Letchworth State Park, Saturday, Nov. 5.
For the girls, the Lakers had four runners. Eighth-grader Emmy O'Neill was fourth with a time of 20:09.8. Abriana Campbell was 111th, Aubrey Hink took 140th and Audrey O'Neill was 141st.
The boys team took 22nd overall. The top finisher was senior Blake Wright with a time of 21:25.6 for 112th place.
