SPORTS RECAP: Week of 10-26-22

Penn Yan-Dundee Football
The Penn Yan-Dundee football team is seeded second in the Section V Class C sectional bracket and will open the tournament against number seven Midlakes. The game will be held at Penn Yan, Friday, Oct. 28 at 7 p.m.
The team ended the regular season with a win over Cuba-Rushford/Hinsdale, 48-8, Friday, Oct. 21.
Quarterback Carter Earl was 13-for-15 with 128 yards and three touchdown passes. Ashtian Dunning recorded three completions on three passes for 97 yards and a touchdown.
On the ground, Nick Slavick carried the ball seven times for 41 yards and a touchdown. Earl added four carries for 20 yards and a touchdown, while Anthony Druker added two carries for 30 yards and a touchdown.
Dunning led the receivers with six catches for 66 yards and two touchdowns. Wyatt Walters had two receptions for 25 yards and a touchdown and Braden Fingar contributed one catch for 62 yards and a touchdown.
Hunter Sheehan recorded 10 tackles, David Young had seven and Mason Czymmek recorded six. Caydin Orwen and Jaxson Enos each had five tackles, and Walters added two with an interception.

Penn Yan-Dundee Cheerleading
The Penn Yan-Dundee cheerleading team competed at the Wayne Finger Lakes Fall Cheerleading League Championship, Wednesday, Oct. 19. The team finished fifth in the Finger Lakes East division with a final score of 48.8.

Penn Yan
Boys Soccer
The Penn Yan boys soccer team advances to the Section V Class B2 semifinals, after an opening win over Mynderse, 1-0, Saturday, Oct. 22. Carson Nagpaul scored with an assist by Landon Berry. Thomas Barden recorded 10 saves in goal.
The semifinal game is on Wednesday, Oct. 26 at Lyons against North Rose-Wolcott.

Girls Soccer
The Penn Yan girls soccer team ended its season with a loss against LeRoy, Saturday, Oct. 22. The final score was 3-2. The Mustangs' goals were recorded by Hailey Hassos and Corinne Barden. Marion Wheeler made five saves in goal.

Girls Tennis
The Penn Yan doubles team of Rachael Garvey and Anella Tillman competed in the state qualifiers last week. The pair fell to the number two-seeded team from Mercy. The set scores were 6-1, 6-3.

Volleyball
The Penn Yan volleyball team defeated Hammondsport in three sets, Friday, Oct. 21. The game scores were 25-14, 25-12, 25-19. Hailey Trank led with 11 aces, three kills, 15 assists and one dig. Rosslan Force had one ace, seven kills, one block and one dig. Faith Baker added five aces, three kills and six digs.
The team also beat Dundee-Bradford, 3-0, Thursday, Oct. 20. Trank recorded 10 aces, one kill, 10 assists and five digs. Force recorded one ace, 11 kills and two blocks. Brooklyn Ayers added five aces, one kill and one dig.

Cross Country
The Penn Yan cross country team competed at Marion, Thursday, Oct. 20. For the boys, James Tette was first in 17:52. Anthony Wheeler took sixth with a 19:30 and Brisco Smith was 20th in 21:08.
For the girls, Madison Bishop took 14th with a time of 28:28.


Dundee-Bradford
Boys Soccer
The Dundee-Bradford boys soccer team fell to Marion, 3-2, in the sectional game, Saturday, Oct. 22. Miguel Candela scored twice for the BraveScots.
The team opened the sectional campaign with a win over Perry, Wednesday, Oct. 19. The final score was 6-0. Candela scored twice, as did Aiden Monell. Also scoring were Ian Pavlina and Alex Goltry. Assisting in the game were Candela (twice), Hayden Erick and Goltry.

Girls Soccer
The Dundee-Bradford girls soccer team lost to Cuba-Rushford/Hinsdale, 5-0, in a sectional game, Tuesday, Oct. 18. The BraveScots end the season with a 8-8-1 record.

Volleyball
The Dundee-Bradford volleyball team lost to Penn Yan in their annual home Pink Game to raise awareness of breast cancer, Thursday, Oct. 20. The game scores were 18-25, 20-25, 26-28.
Mikayla Schoffner had nine aces, one block and four kills. Lily Hall added eight assists and McKenna Miller recorded five kills.
The team defeated Hammondsport in three games, Tuesday, Oct. 18. The scores were 25-13, 25-6, 25-9. Senior Lily Hall led the BraveScots with 17 aces and eight assists.

Cross Country
The Dundee-Bradford cross country team competed at Midlakes, Tuesday, Oct. 18. For the boys, Devon Grandall was 37th in 23:40.0. Bryten Dunham took 38th in 24:22.1 and Braedyn Fisher was 40th in 24:38.8.
For the girls, Marley Duffy was 17th in 27:12.7.

Hammondsport
Boys Soccer
The Hammondsport boys soccer team lost to Northstar Christian, 7-0, Saturday, Oct. 22. The game was the opening match for the Lakers in Class D2 for sectionals.

Girls Soccer
The Hammondsport girls soccer team defeated Friendship/Scio, Saturday, Oct. 22. The final score resulted in a 2-2 tie, with the winning team being determined by a shootout. Regular game goals were recorded by Sam Pratt and Stefania Tears with assists by Danica Dresser and Pratt.
The shootout resulted in a 4-3 tally in the Lakers favor, with Zayda Braun, Pratt, Arielle Szathmary and Gabrielle Doyle scoring.
LaZell Locey had nine saves in the game.
The team now takes on Northstar at Dansville on Wednesday.

Volleyball
The Hammondsport volleyball team lost to Penn Yan, 3-0, Friday, Oct. 21. Game scores were 25-14, 25-12, 25-19.
The team defeated Campbell-Savona in five games, Wednesday, Oct. 19. Individual scores included 25-20, 19-25, 22-25, 25-22, 16-14. Seneca Boscoe led at the net with 13 kills. At the service line, Emily Starkweather had nine aces followed by Leah Starkweather with six.

Schuyler Storm
Football
The combined Watkins Glen and Odessa-Montour football team will travel to play Dryden, this Friday, Oct. 28. The team had a bye last week and faces a team they previously defeated, 21-14, at the beginning of October with home-field advantage.

Swimming
The Watkins Glen and Odessa-Montour swimming team won the Interscholastic Athletic Conference title at the Watkins Glen pool, Saturday, Oct. 22. They won with a total of 484 points to second-place Dryden's 349.
Recording victories in the event were: the 200 yard medley relay team (Alannah Klemann, Faye Mooney, Emily Melveney and Thalia Marquez), Marquez in the 100 and 200 free, Klemann (200 IM), Mooney (50 free), the 200 free relay team (Mooney, Kendra Fish, Klemann and Marquez), and the 400 free relay team (Emily Melveney, Malina Butler, Fish and Aubrey Klemann).

Watkins Glen
Girls Soccer
The Watkins Glen girls soccer team opened the Section IV tournament with a win over Unadilla Valley, 4-0, Friday, Oct. 21. Goals were recorded by Sasha Honrath, Skye Honrath, Ava Kelly and Olivia VanSkiver. Erin Snow added one assist. Goalie Lilly Ameigh made eight saves.
"It was a total team effort today and that is what I'm most proud of," said Coach Scott Morse. "Everyone on this team worked hard all week to be ready for this game, and when they were on the field they played together and earned the win. We had good ball movement and communication, everyone found their role within the game plan, and they are always so supportive of one another. We will get back at it and prepare for what I'm sure will be a tough game on the road at Notre Dame, Tuesday."
Notre Dame is the second-seeded team in the class and Watkins Glen is third.

Volleyball
The Watkins Glen volleyball team lost to Newark Valley, 3-1, Friday, Oct. 21. The team also fell to Newfield, 3-2, Thursday, Oct. 20.

Odessa-Montour
Boys Soccer
The Odessa-Montour boys soccer team lost to Edmeston, 5-0, Wednesday, Oct. 19.

Girls Soccer
The Odessa-Montour girls soccer team lost to Cherry Valley, 4-2, Friday, Oct. 21, in the second game of sectionals. Hannah Nolan scored one goal with an assist by Tori Brewster. The other goal was scored by Cherry Valley on themselves. Keyonna Garrison made three saves in the game.
The season saw both Nolan and Brewster set school records for season goals (27) and career assists (34), respectively.
The team defeated Sharon Springs, 5-1, Tuesday, Oct. 18. Scoring for O-M were: Nolan (four) and Brewster. Brewster also recorded three assists. Garrison made two saves.

Volleyball
The Odessa-Montour girls volleyball team lost to Spencer-Van Etten, 3-2, Thursday, Oct. 20. Emma Landon led with 19 service points and six aces. Maya Moser added 15 service points and two kills..
