SPORTS RECAP: Week of 10-19-22

Penn Yan-Dundee Football
The Penn Yan-Dundee football team lost its first game of the season, Friday, Oct. 14 to East Rochester-Gananda. The final score was 42-34.
Quarterback Carter Earl was 5-for-12 with 149 yards and two touchdowns through the air. He also ran for 78 yards on eight carries.
Nick Slavick ran the ball 14 times for 90 yards and one touchdown in the game. Bryant Van Housen recorded 13 carries for 58 yards and a touchdown.
Caden Dixon added two receiving touchdowns with four catches and 148 yards.
On defense, Jaxson Enos made 10 tackles including one interception. Slavick added eight tackles and also one interception. Tony Sciallo recorded eight tackles with a sack and Hunter Sheehan made seven tackles with a fumble recovery returned for a touchdown. Anthony Druker had five tackles and an interception, while Earl added four tackles and a fumble recovery.

Penn Yan
Boys Soccer
The Penn Yan boys soccer team defeated Naples 2-0, Friday, Oct. 14. Jayden Reid and David Reid scored with an assist by Zackary Townley.
The soccer team also won over Palmyra-Macedon, 1-0, Monday, Oct. 10. David Reid recorded the goal for the Mustangs.

Girls Soccer
The Penn Yan girls soccer team fell to Bloomfield, 1-0, Friday, Oct. 14.
The team defeated Newark, 2-0, Thursday, Oct. 13. Hailey Hassos and Maihue Miranda-Wiltberger both scored with assists by Makenna Mullins and Hassos. Marion Wheeler and Sienna Pettersen split goal-keeping duties with two and three saves, respectively.
The team lost to Waterloo, Tuesday, Oct. 11. The final score was 1-0.

Volleyball
The Penn Yan volleyball team defeated South Seneca in three games, Thursday, Oct. 13. The game scores were 25-20, 25-8, 25-14. Hailey Trank had four aces, four kills, 21 assists and three digs in the match. Kaeden Dailey added three aces, seven kills and five digs. Brooklyn Ayers recorded four aces, one kill and two digs.
The Mustangs lost to Harley-Allendale Columbia, 3-0, Tuesday, Oct. 11.

Cross Country
The Penn Yan cross country team competed at Honeoye, Friday, Oct. 14. James Tette was second in 17.15. Kyle Wheeler took fifth with a 19.42 and Anthony Wheeler was sixth in 20.07.

Dundee-Bradford
Boys Soccer
The Dundee-Bradford boys soccer team defeated South Seneca/Romulus, 6-1, Friday, Oct. 14. Recording goals were Miguel Candela (four), Aiden Monell and Ian Pavlina. Assists were earned by Candela (two), Monell, Ryan McTamney and Pavlina.
The boys also won over Marcus Whitman, Wednesday, Oct. 12. The final score was 4-0. Goals were scored by Pavlina, Cam Buchanan, Candela and McTamney. Assisting on the goals were Candela, McTamney, Hayden Erick and Monell.

Girls Soccer
The Dundee-Bradford girls soccer team won, 6-0, over Red Jacket, Thursday, Oct. 13. Scoring for the BraveScots were Madison Hughes (three), Kendall Parker (two) and Riley Stinson. Assisting were Korrin Yeoman (two), Parker (two) and Hughes. Ellie Fleet made five saves in the goal.
The soccer team lost to Naples, 1-0, Tuesday, Oct. 11.

Volleyball
The Dundee-Bradford volleyball team lost to Bloomfield, 3-0, Wednesday, Oct. 12. Lily Hall had nine assists. Mikayla Schoffner recorded five kills.
The BraveScots won against Honeoye, 3-0, Tuesday, Oct. 11. Hall led with 10 assists and 15 aces. Brieonna Bayer added eight aces. Schoffner had six kills and five aces, while Addie Kendall had six aces.

Cross Country
The Dundee-Bradford cross country team competed at Harley-Allendale Columbia, Tuesday, Oct. 11. Devon Grandall was 20th in 21:29, Brynten Dunham took 38th in 24:57 and Bratdyn Fisher was 40th in 25:31.
In the girls race, Marley Duffy was 16th in 26:08.

Hammondsport
Boys Soccer
The Hammondsport boys soccer team won against Canisteo-Greenwood, 3-2, Thursday, Oct. 13. Jakob Mueller scored all three goals with assists by Ethen Beers and TyChristopher Ritter.
The team lost to Avoca-Prattsburgh, 5-1, Tuesday, Oct. 11. Scoring was Jakob Mueller with an assist by Alex Brown.

Girls Soccer
The Hammondsport girls soccer team lost to Campbell-Savona, Friday, Oct. 14. The final score was 3-0.
the team tied Jasper-Troupsburg, 1-1, Wednesday, Oct. 12. Sam Pratt scored with an assist by Danica Dresser. LaZell Locey made eight saves in the goal.
The Lakers defeated Mount Morris, 5-0, Monday, Oct. 10. Pratt scored three times, while Dresser and Alivia Herzog also added goals. Gabrielle Doyle contributed three assists and Stefania Tears had one. Locey made three saves in goal.

Volleyball
The Hammondsport volleyball team lost to Canisteo-Greenwood, 3-0, Friday, Oct. 14.

Schuyler Storm
Football
The combined Watkins Glen and Odessa-Montour football team stayed unbeaten with a home win over Whitney Point, Friday, Oct. 14. The final score was 34-8.
Quarterback Daniel Lewis was 8-for-16 with 106 yards and three touchdown passes.
On the ground, Ryan Willett had 12 carries for 92 yards and a touchdown. Thomas Snow recorded eight carries for 55 yards and Bradley Gillis had seven for 56 yards.
Gillis also made three catches for 51 yards including two touchdowns. Willett had four receptions for 35 yards and Snow had one for a touchdown with 20 yards.
On defense, Snow made 12 tackles, Gillis six and Alex Holmes five.

Swimming
The Watkins Glen and Odessa-Montour swimming team defeated Waverly, 97-81, Tuesday, Oct. 11. Recording first-place finishes were: the 200 medley relay team, Alannah Klemann (200 free), Thalia Marquez (200 IM and 100 free), Emily Melveney (100 fly), Cara Reynolds (500 free) and the 200 freestyle relay team.

Watkins Glen
Girls Soccer
The Watkins Glen girls soccer team captured the Interscholastic Athletic Conference Small School title, Saturday, Oct. 15 at Tompkins Cortland Community College. Watkins won in the second overtime by a score of 2-1.
"It was truly a total team effort capped off by a game-winning goal from Zade Gomez-Fitzsimmons," said Coach Scott Morse after the game. "We had talked at half-time that we needed to take more shots outside with the wind at our back, and Zade stepped in and hit one when we needed it the most. I couldn't be prouder of this team."
In the game, goals were recorded by Sasha Honrath and the game-winner by Gomez-Fitzsimmons. Skye Honrath assisted and goalkeeper Lilly Ameigh made five saves.
"Defensively, we were once again very strong," said Morse. "Carly Arnold, Brenna Pierce and Rachel Vickio are often the unsung heroes of the team on the back line, and they were really good today. Lilly Ameigh made some terrific saves today and communicated very well. Skye, Sasha and Ava are always terrific up front and Erin Snow was terrific working the outside and fighting for every possession."
The IAC title was the first in Watkins Glen history for girls soccer.

Boys Soccer
The Watkins Glen boys soccer team lost to Elmira Notre Dame, 4-0, Monday, Oct. 10.

Cross Country
The Watkins Glen cross country team competed at the Marathon Invite, Saturday, Oct. 15. Johnny VanScoyk was 9th in 19:41.00. Isaac Hendrickson was 13th in 20:02.00.

Volleyball
The Watkins Glen volleyball team defeated Odessa-Montour, 3-2, Friday, Oct. 14. For the Senecas, Jocelyn Sisana had 15 service points, 10 digs and 8 aces. Sarah Jones added 12 service points, 13 aces and 13 assists. Ava Barber had 12 service points and three digs.
The volleyball team lost to Candor, 3-1, Wednesday, Oct. 12.

Odessa-Montour
Boys Soccer
The Odessa-Montour boys soccer team won against Groton, 2-0, Tuesday, Oct. 11.

Volleyball
The Odessa-Montour volleyball team lost to Watkins Glen, Friday, Oct. 14. Odessa won two games to Watkins Glen's three. Emma Landon recorded 21 service points with 10 aces and four kills. Maya Moser added 11 service points, two aces and three kills. Hannah Kinner earned 10 service points, four assists and two aces.
The team fell to Edison, 3-0, Wednesday, Oct. 12. Landon led with seven service points, three aces, three kills and three digs.
The volleyball team also lost to Candor, 3-0, Tuesday, Oct. 11. .
