SPORTS RECAP: Week of 9-28-22

Penn Yan
Boys Soccer
The Penn Yan boys soccer team lost to Wayne, 2-1, Saturday, Sept. 24. Scoring was Riley Griffiths with an assist by David Reid.
The team won big over East/LAFYM/SWN/NE N Douglass, Thursday, Sept. 22. The final score was 6-0. Zackary Townley, Collin Bacher, Landon Spears, Reid, Griffiths and Owen Bishop all scored. Assists were recorded by Landon Berry (three), Reid (two) and Townley.
The soccer team also won over Palmyra-Macedon, 2-0, Tuesday, Sept. 20. Bishop contributed two goals and Reid had one. Berry assisted twice, while Townley did once.

Girls Soccer
The Penn Yan girls soccer team lost to Honeoye, 1-0, Friday, Sept. 23. Marion Wheeler had three saves in goal.
The team defeated Midlakes, Wednesday, Sept. 21. The final score was 3-2. Maihue Miranda-Wiltberger scored all three goals with one assist by Makenna Mullins.

Girls Tennis
The Mustangs tennis team lost to Geneva, 5-0, Friday, Sept. 23.
The team defeated Newark, 5-0, Wednesday, Sept. 21. Recording wins in singles matches were Rachael Garvey, Adelyn Emerson and Anella Tillman. The doubles pairs of Amanda Smith and Erin Clancy, and Aubrey Flores and Jordana Soyring all won.
The girls also shutout Wayne, 5-0, Tuesday, Sept. 20. Wins were earned by Garvey, Emerson, Tillman and pairs (Rayna Rios and Smith) and (Clancy and Margaret Brown).

Volleyball
The Penn Yan volleyball team lost to Midlakes, 3-0, Tuesday, Sept. 20. The team defeated South Seneca in three games, Monday, Sept. 19.

Cross Country
Penn Yan hosted a cross country meet, Tuesday, Sept. 20.
In the boys race, James Tette was first in 17:40.03. Kyle Wheeler took third in 18:38.65, while Anthony Wheeler was sixth with a time of 19:55.86.
For the girls, Madison Bishop was 20th in 29:53.49.

Golf
The Penn Yan golf team lost to Honeoye 278-293, Wednesday, Sept. 21. Will Thompson led the Mustangs with a low 49.


Penn Yan-Dundee Football
The Penn Yan-Dundee football team improved to 3-0 on the season with a win over Midlakes, 48-7, Saturday, Sept. 24.
Quarterback Carter Earl was 14-for-17 on the day with 188 yards and four passing touchdowns. On the ground, he added six carries for 53 yards and a touchdown.
The rushing attack was led by Nick Slavick with 13 carries for 70 yards and a touchdown. Bryant Van Housen contributed six carries for 52 yards.
Through the air, Ashtian Dunning reeled in six passes for 109 yards and three touchdowns. Anthony Druker recorded two receptions for 53 yards and a touchdown.
On defense, Jon Bell, Hunter Sheehan and Slavick each had nine tackles. Bell also added a fumble recovery. Caden Orwen had two tackles and two sacks.
Kicker Owen Bishop was 6-for-7 on extra points.

Dundee-Bradford
Boys Soccer
The Dundee-Bradford boys soccer team topped South Seneca/Romulus 6-0, Saturday, Sept. 24. Miguel Candela scored twice, while Nathan Kiskaden, Ian Pavlina, Gabe Stiles and Ryan McTamney each had one goal. Assisting were Aidan Webster, Candela, Stiles, McTamney and Jakeb Lederman.
The boys defeated Marcus Whitman, Thursday, Sept. 22. The final score was 2-1. Candela and McTamney scored the two goals.
The team also won over Arkport-Canaseraga, 1-0, Monday, Sept. 19. Pavlina scored with an assist by Candela.

Girls Soccer
The Dundee-Bradford girls soccer team had three wins and one loss last week.
The BraveScots beat South Seneca, 4-1, Friday, Sept. 23. Madison Hughes had three goals and Kendall Parker had one. Assisting were Korrin Yeoman, Trisha Edmister and Hayden Morrison. Adalyn Tham made four saves in goal.
The girls fell to Avoca/Prattsburgh, 6-3, Wednesday, Sept. 21. Scoring for the BraveScots were Edmister, Parker and Hughes.
The team won a close game over Harley-Allendale-Columbia, 7-6, Tuesday, Sept. 20. Hughes and Parker each scored three times. Meredith Doan had the go-ahead goal. Ellie Fleet made six saves in goal.
The soccer team also won against Red Jacket, Monday, Sept. 19. The final score was 5-1. Parker had three goals and Hughes recorded two. Fleet contributed three saves in goal.

Volleyball
The Dundee-Bradford volleyball team won in five sets over Prattsburgh/Avoca, Tuesday, Sept. 20. The game scores were 24-26, 25-27, 25-4, 25-3, 15-10. Leaders on the team included: Lily Hall with nine assists, four aces and 10 kills. Mikayla Schoffner added five assists and five kills. Chelsey Williams recorded six aces, Veronica Smith had five aces and Addie Kendall earned six aces and five assists.
The team fell to Bloomfield in three games, Monday, Sept. 19.

Cross Country
The Dundee-Bradford cross country team competed at Penn Yan, Tuesday, Sept. 20.
For the boys, Devon Grandall took 23rd in 23:07.59, Bryton Dunham was 29th with a 24:47.45 and Braedyn Fisher was 33rd in 28:54.71.
In the girls race, Cheyenne Grandall was 12th in 26:20.34 and Marley Duffy was 21st with a 30:03.51.


Hammondsport
Boys Soccer
The Hammondsport boys soccer team fell to Arkport-Canaseraga, 3-0, Friday, Sept. 23.
The team defeated Friendship/Scio, 5-0, Wednesday, Sept. 21. TyChristopher Ritter had three goals in the game. Luke Szathmary and Jakob Mueller had the other two.
The boys lost to Canisteo-Greenwood, 3-2, Monday, Sept. 19. Ritter had both goals in the game with assists by Mueller.

Girls Soccer
The Hammondsport girls soccer team lost to Addison 5-0, Friday, Sept. 23.
The Lakers had two wins earlier in the week. They defeated Mount Morris, 4-1, Wednesday, Sept. 21. Danica Dresser scored all four goals with assists by Raegan Luppino and Zayda Braun (two). LaZell Locey recorded four saves in goal.
The team topped Arkport/Canaseraga, 3-2, Monday, Sept. 19. The final score was 3-2. Gabrielle Doyle, Dresser and Braun scored the three goals. Locey made five saves in goal.

Volleyball
The Hammondsport volleyball team fell to Canisteo-Greenwood in three sets, Friday, Sept. 23.

Schuyler Storm
Football
The combined Watkins Glen and Odessa-Montour football team celebrated Odessa's homecoming game with a 40-8 win over the Montrose Meteors.
The Schuyler Storm's ground game was led by Bradley Gillis with 12 carries for 162 yards and two touchdowns. Ryan Willett contributed nine carries for 109 yards and a touchdown, while Thomas Snow added 12 carries for 71 yards and a touchdown.
Quarterback Daniel Lewis was 8-for-22 with 88 yards and a touchdown.
Gillis also had three catches for 39 yards and a touchdown. Willett added three catches for 33 yards and Alex Holmes had one for 14 yards.
Gavin Lohmeyer led the defense with six tackles. Snow, Gillis and Otto Hohle each had five tackles.

Swimming
The Watkins Glen and Odessa-Montour swim team hosted an invitational on Friday and Saturday last week. The team finished sixth with 199 points. Shenendehowa (north of Albany) won the event with 613 points.
Top finishers included the 200 medley relay with Alannah Klemann, Faye Mooney, Emily Melveney and Thalia Marquez; and Mooney in the 100 breaststroke with a state-qualifying 1:08.54.
Second-place finishers included: Marquez (200 free and 500 free) and Mooney (50 free).

Watkins Glen
Boys Soccer
The Watkins Glen boys soccer team traveled to Tioga, Saturday, Sept. 24. The boys won 2-1. The first goal was recorded by Ryan Baudendistle assisted by Aidan Kelly. Jacob Yontz then scored off of a corner kick by Liam Smith to take the lead. Goalie Caleb Bresett had eight saves in goal.
The soccer team played Newark Valley, Wednesday, Sept. 21 and lost 1-0. Jake Vandereems had 12 saves in goal.

Girls Soccer
The Watkins Glen girls soccer team lost to Odessa-Montour, Saturday, Sept. 24. The final score was 2-1. Skye Honrath scored the Senecas' goal. Lilly Ameigh made seven saves.
The team defeated Tioga, 8-0, Monday, Sept. 19. Honrath had four goals, while Natalie Oliver had two. Also scoring were Ava Kelly and Maisie Robertson. Olivia VanSkiver had three assists and Jennifer Gublo had one. Ameigh made eight saves in the goal.

Volleyball
The Watkins Glen volleyball team defeated Odessa-Montour, Thursday, Sept. 22. The game scores were 27-25, 25-19 and 25-16. Jocelyn Sisana had 13 digs and 10 service points with three aces. Ava Barber added four aces, two assists, four kills, one block and eight service points. Chelsea Parsons recorded two aces, six kills, one block, nine digs and seven service points. Aly Gibson added two aces, four kills, one block, seven digs and nine service points.

Cross Country
The Watkins Glen cross country team competed at the Owego Cross Country Invitational, Saturday, Sept. 24. Johnny VanScoyk was 14th in 18:43.5. Isaac Hendrickson was 18th in 18:51.8.
Wendy Coleman was 58th in the girls race in 26:32.9.

Odessa-Montour
Boys Soccer
The Odessa-Montour boys soccer team lost to Waverly, 3-0, Thursday, Sept. 22. The team also fell to Spencer-Van Etten, 8-1, Tuesday, Sept. 20.

Girls Soccer
The Odessa-Montour girls soccer team defeated Watkins Glen, 2-1, Saturday, Sept. 24. Scoring for Odessa was Tori Brewster with two goals.
The team beat Campbell-Savona, 2-0, Wednesday, Sept. 21. Hannah Nolan contributed both goals and Brewster had an assist.
The team also topped Newfield, Tuesday, Sept. 20. The final score was 5-0. Nolan had three goals. Paisley Jeziorski and Brewster also each scored once. Keyonna Garrison and Brooke Thompson combined for four saves.

Volleyball
The Odessa-Montour volleyball team lost to Watkins Glen, Thursday, Sept. 22. The game scores were 25-27, 19-25, 16-25. Hannah Kinner recorded four service points, four aces and two assists. Dominick Elliott had five service points, one ace and six digs. Emma Landon added six service points, two aces, one kill and six digs. Kyleigh Bates also had three service points, one kill and seven digs.
