SPORTS RECAP: Week of 9-21-22

Penn Yan-Dundee Football
The Penn Yan-Dundee football team celebrated Penn Yan's homecoming with a big win over Waterloo, Saturday, Sept. 17. The final score was 57-0.
Nick Slavick had two touchdowns on four carries and 114 yards. He also scored a touchdown on an interception with a 68-yard run and had one reception for 28 yards and a touchdown. Bryant Van Housen ran the ball nine times for 100 yards and a touchdown. Hunter Sheehan also added a touchdown with three carries for 20 yards.
Quarterback Carter Earl was 2-for-3 with 29 yards and one touchdown pass.
On special teams, Anthony Druker recorded a 79-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. Ashtian Dunning returned a punt for a touchdown with 73 yards. Owen Bishop was 7-for-7 on extra points.
Sheehan led the defense with 11 tackles. Mason Czymmek added six. Reed Bouchard recorded two sacks with three tackles.

Penn Yan
Boys Soccer
The Penn Yan boys soccer team defeated Mynderse, Friday, Sept. 16. The final score was 2-0. Owen Bishop and Landon Berry both scored, while David Reid assisted.
The boys also beat Waterloo, 2-0, Wednesday, Sept. 14. Carson Nagpaul and Berry scored with assists by Bishop and Berry.
The team opened the week by winning over Geneva, 2-0, Monday, Sept. 12. Nagpaul and Bishop scored with assists by Berry and Reid.

Girls Soccer
The Penn Yan girls soccer team fell to Geneva, 3-2, Thursday, Sept. 15. Makenna Mullins and Morgan Andersen scored with assists from Maihue Miranda-Wiltberger and Hailey Hassos. Sienna Pettersen made five saves in goal.
The Mustangs also fell to Waterloo, 2-0, Tuesday, Sept. 13.

Cross Country
The Penn Yan cross country team competed at Marcus Whitman, Tuesday, Sept. 13.
For the boys, James Tette was third with a 17:27. Kyle Wheeler recorded a fifth-place finish with a 19:09 time. Anthony Wheeler was eighth in 20:08.
In the girls race, Madison Bishop took 11th in 28:14.

Golf
The Bloomfield golf team defeated Penn Yan 257-348, Friday, Sept. 16. Colin Johnson was the team leader with a 56.
The Mustangs lost a close match to Naples, 276-280, Monday, Sept. 12. Will Thompson had the low 45.

Girls Tennis
The Penn Yan tennis team lost to HAC, 4-1, Friday, Sept. 16. The lone win for the Mustangs was Anella Tillman in third singles.
The team lost to Mynderse, Wednesday, Sept. 14. The final score was 3-2, with Penn Yan wins coming from singles player Rachael Garvey and doubles team Amanda Smith and Erin Clancy.

Volleyball
The Penn Yan volleyball team lost to Harley-Allendale Columbia in three sets, Thursday, Sept. 15.
The girls won over Hammondsport, 25-23, 25-20, 25-15, Tuesday, Sept. 13.
The team was defeated by Bloomfield, Monday, Sept. 12. The game scores were 25-13, 25-13, 25-23.

Dundee-Bradford
Volleyball
The Dundee-Bradford volleyball team had three wins last week. All matches were decided in three sets with victories over Honeoye, Campbell-Savona and Mynderse Academy.
Against Honeoye, game scores were 25-5, 25-8, 25-13. Lily Hall recorded seven aces, four assists and two kills. Addie Kendall contributed three assists and four kills. Mikayla Schoffner added eight aces. Brie Bayer and Veronica Smith both had four aces.
The win over Campbell-Savona was 25-20, 25-17, 25-15. McKenna Miller and Bayer each had four aces. Hall added five assists and two aces. Schoffner recorded five kills and two aces. Veronica Smith added three aces.
The BraveScots beat Mynderse 26-24, 25-23, 25-16. Hall had eight assists and two aces. Schoffner put up six kills and three aces. Smith added five aces.

Boys Soccer
The Dundee-Bradford boys soccer team won against Bloomfield, 2-1, Wednesday, Sept. 14. Hayden Erick scored with an assist by Aiden Monell. Ian Pavlina also scored.
The BraveScots also beat Honeoye, 1-0, Monday, Sept. 12. Jakeb Lederman scored with an assist by Miguel Candela.

Girls Soccer
The Dundee-Bradford girls soccer team tied Naples, 1-1, Thursday, Sept. 15. Scoring was Madison Hughes with an assist by Kendall Parker. Ellie Fleet had 11 saves in the goal.

Cross Country
The Dundee-Bradford cross country team competed at Marcus Whitman, Tuesday, Sept. 13.
For the boys, Braedyn Fisher was 18th in 21:09. Alex Leonard finished 30th in 22:23.
For the girls, Cheyanne Grandall recorded a 10th place finish with 28:10 and Marley Duffy was 16th in 29:21.

Hammondsport
Boys Soccer
The Hammondsport boys soccer team lost to Jasper-Troupsburg, 4-1, Thursday, Sept. 15. Scoring for the Lakers was Alex Brown with an assist by Ethen Beers.
The team defeated Andover/Whitesville 5-1, Monday, Sept. 12. Luke Szathmary recorded three goals. Alex Brown and TyChristopher Ritter rounded out the scoring.

Girls Soccer
The Hammondsport girls soccer team lost to Cuba-Rushford/Hinsdale, 2-0, Saturday, Sept. 17. LaZell Locey made eight saves in goal.
The Lakers beat Franklinville, Thursday, Sept. 15. The final score was 1-0. Gabrielle Doyle scored with an assist by Danica Dresser. Locey recorded six saves.
The team tied Lima Christian, 2-2, Monday, Sept. 12. Sam Pratt netted both goals with assists by Dresser. Locey had eight saves.

Volleyball
The Hammondsport volleyball team defeated Prattsburgh/Avoca in five games, Friday, Sept. 16. The scores were 25-12, 19-25, 14-25, 26-24, 15-11. The Lakers were led by Lexi Wilson and Vivian Kenyon each with five kills followed by Seneca Boscoe with four. Both Boscoe and Leah Starkweather had three aces.
The volleyball team fell to Addison in four games, Thursday, Sept. 15, and Penn Yan in three games, Tuesday, Sept. 13.

Cross Country
The Hammondsport cross country team competed at the Wayne Cross Country Invitational, Saturday, Sept. 17.
For the boys, Blake Wright was 87th in 22:12. Isaiyah Ali was 101st in 23:04.
In the girls race, Emmy O'Neill took 18th in 22:46. Abriana Campbell was 99th in 33:18.

Schuyler Storm
Football
The combined Watkins Glen and Odessa-Montour football team defeated Whitney Point, 48-20, Saturday, Sept. 17.
Leading the Schuyler Storm was Ryan Willett with 14 carries for 175 yards and one touchdown. Also on the ground, Bradley Gillis had 11 carries for 123 yards and a touchdown. Thomas Snow added nine carries for 64 yards and two touchdowns.
Quarterback Daniel Lewis was 4-for-9 with 92 yards and two touchdown passes.
Brady Cannon contributed two catches for 44 yards and one touchdown. Alex Holmes made one catch for forty yards and a touchdown, while Gillis had one catch for 12 yards.
Snow also led the defense with nine tackles. Willett had five.

Swimming
The Watkins Glen and Odessa-Montour swim team won over Whitney Point, 110-15, Thursday, Sept. 15. First place finishers included: the 200 medley relay team, Emily Melveney (200 free), Cara Reynolds (200 IM), Hannah Hollenbeck (50 free), Sarah Stolpinski (100 fly), Aubrey Klemann (100 free), Thalia Marquez (500 free), the 200 free relay team, Malina Butler (100 back), Elizabeth Fitzwater (100 breaststroke), and the 400 freestyle relay team.
The team also beat Owego Free Academy, 82-18, Tuesday, Sept. 13, and fell to Chenango Valley 51-50.

Watkins Glen
Cross Country
The Watkins Glen cross country team competed at the McDaniel-Baxter Cross Country Invitational, Saturday, Sept. 17. Aidan Maphis was 39th in 15:54.00. Johnny VanScoyk was 71st with a time of 16:49.00.
Wendy Coleman recorded a 71st place finish for a 22:07.00.

Boys Soccer
The Watkins Glen boys soccer team fell to Waverly, 5-1, Saturday, Sept. 17. Jacob Yontz scored with an assist by Savie Purpura. Jake Vandereems had 18 saves in goal.
The Seneca fell to Trumansburg, 7-1, Monday, Sept. 12. Liam Smith had the lone goal with an assist by Purpura.

Girls Soccer
The Watkins Glen girls soccer team beat Notre Dame, 3-1, Saturday, Sept. 17. Scoring for the Senecas were Skye Honrath with two goals and Ava Kelly with one. Lilly Ameigh recorded 12 saves.
The girls defeated Newfield, Thursday, Sept. 15. The final score was 3-2. Kelly scored twice and Olivia King had one.
The team ended a Monday game in a tie with Campbell-Savona, 1-1. Honrath netted the goal with an assist by Kelly.

Odessa-Montour
Boys Soccer
The Odessa-Montour boys soccer team lost to Newark Valley, 3-1, Wednesday, Sept. 14.
The soccer team also fell to Newfield, 7-2, Monday, Sept. 12.

Girls Soccer
The Odessa-Montour girls soccer team lost to Newark Valley, 5-0, Saturday, Sept. 17.
The Odessa girls recorded a big win over Tioga, Thursday, Sept. 15. The final score was 10-1. Hannah Nolan scored four goals and added one assist. Sarah Barr contributed three goals, Kelsey Bates had two and Tori Brewster, one. Brewster also assisted once, setting a new school record of 27. Katie Adams also had one assist.
Goalkeepers Keyonna Garrison and Jackie Mace combined for five saves.
The Odessa girls beat Moravia, Tuesday, Sept. 13. The final score was 6-0. Nolan and Brewster both scored twice. Paisley Jeziorski and Mace also added a goal apiece.
