Happy Holidays! The Observer and the REVIEW&EXPRESS each published a combined holiday edition with the dates of Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2024 and Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2024. There is not a new paper for Dec. 25. The next new edition is Wednesday, Jan. 1.
The office is closed on Monday, Dec. 23 and will reopen Thursday, Jan 2.

SPORTS RECAP: Week of 6-8-22

Penn Yan
Boys Lacrosse
The Penn Yan lacrosse team lost in the New York State Public High School Athletic Association regional tournament to Akron, Saturday, June 4. The final score was 12-11.
The Mustangs, whose roster includes only two seniors but seven eighth or ninth graders, kept a tied score of 2-2 at the end of the first quarter before going down 6-4 at half. Penn Yan then exploded with seven goals in the third, bringing the score to 11-9 entering the final quarter. Akron added three unanswered goals to advance to the state semifinal.
Bryant VanHousen and Caden Dixon each scored three goals in the game. Tukker Fisher and Teagen Fingar both added two apiece. Carter Earl contributed one goal and two assists. Braden Fingar added three assists and Oliver Connelly had one. VanHousen also assisted once, as did Teagen Fingar. Griffin Emerson made seven saves in the goal during a complete game.
Penn Yan won their 26th sectional title over Livonia-Avon, Tuesday, May 31. The Mustangs trailed 4-3 at halftime before a strong fourth quarter saw four goals for Penn Yan while holding Livonia-Avon to none. The final score was 8-6.
Teagen Fingar had three goals and one assist in the game. VanHousen added two goals and two assists, while Earl also scored twice and had one assist. Dixon contributed one goal to the win and Braden Fingar had an assist. Emerson recorded nine saves.
Freshman Teagen Fingar was the Class D All-Tournament MVP.

Track and Field
Penn Yan track and field athletes competed in the Section V state qualifier at East Irondequoit, Friday, June 4.
The results were as follows:
• Adriana Rodriguez was first in the discus throw (118' 2") and was third in the shot put (33' 3.75").
• James Tette took second in the 3,000 meter steeplechase (10:09.72) and was third 3,200 meter run (9:59.17).
• Anthony Wheeler finished 12th in the 800 meter run (2:13.83).

Dundee-Bradford
Track and Field
Dundee-Bradford track and field athletes competed in the Section V state qualifier at East Irondequoit, Friday, June 4.
The results were as follows:
• Logan Buchanan was third in the high jump, 6' 1".
• Camden Buchanan was fourth in the long jump (20' 8.5"), 10th in the triple jump (39' 9.5") and finished 13th in the boys 100 meter dash with a 11.93.
• Lily Hall took fourth in the triple jump (34' 7") and was 10th in the long jump.
• Madison Hughes was fifth in the long jump, 15" 4.75".
• Hayden Erick was fifth in the triple jump (42' 3.5") and 10th in the long jump, 18' 11".
• Hallie Knapp was sixth in the discus throw, 89' 11".
• The boys 4x100 meter relay took 10th in 46.61.
• The girls 4x100 meter relay team was 12th in 55.03.

Hammondsport
Track and Field
Hammondsport track and field athletes competed in the Section V state qualifier at East Irondequoit, Friday, June 4.
The results were as follows:
• Nevin Davis was fourth in the 400 meter run (52.63), ninth in the 200 meter dash and 14th in the 100 meter dash.
• Liam Kressly was 10th in the outdoor pentathlon.

Brewster takes first
Athletes for Odessa-Montour and Watkins Glen participated at the Section 4 state qualifier, Wednesday and Thursday last week. O-M's Tori Brewster finished first in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.46 and was second in the 200 meter dash with a 26.03. Camille Sgrecci took 10th in the outdoor pentathlon. For Watkins Glen, Breanna Carl was 11th in the steeplechase (9:04.89), while Quacey Wilt was 18th in the 100 meter dash. Johnny VanScoyk was 24th in the 1,600 meter run.
