SPORTS RECAP: Week of 5-11-22

Watkins Glen/Odessa-Montour Baseball
The Watkins Glen/Odessa-Montour baseball team defeated Spencer-Van Etten/Candor in a game, Friday, May 6. The final score was 23-4. Alex Holmes had five RBIs in the game on three hits. Cameron Holland and Daniel Lewis also recorded three hits. Lewis also had 11 strikeouts on the mound.
The baseball team lost to Spencer-Van Etten/Candor, 16-8, Wednesday, May 4. Holland had three hits and two RBIs in the game. Lewis also had two RBIs.

Watkins Glen
Softball
The Watkins Glen softball team fell to Dundee, Friday, May 6. The final score was 16-1. Brenna Pierce pitched for the Senecas and Brianna Hatch was behind the plate.
The girls lost to Newark Valley, 8-3, Thursday, May 5.
The softball team also lost to Odessa-Montour 18-3, Tuesday, May 3.

Lacrosse
The Watkins Glen lacrosse team fell to Dryden, 19-3, Friday, May 6. Garrett VanOstrand had two goals and Sam Hohle had one. Nick D'Alleva recorded one assist.

Track
Watkins Glen hosted Waverly for a track meet, Tuesday, May 3. The boys fell 90-36, while the girls lost 116-15.
First-place finishers included: Johnny VanScoyk in the 1,600 meter run, Balan Ault in the 800 meter run and Aidan Maphis in the 3,200. The 4x800 relay team was also first.
Breanna Carl won in the girls 800 meter run and Ava Kelly was first in the long jump.

Golf
The Watkins Glen boys golf team lost to Spencer-Van Etten/Candor, Friday, May 6. Daniel Ely shot a 41 and Luke Spahalski added a 43.
The golf team defeated Trumansburg, 187-201, Thursday, May 5. Ely had the low 40. Georgio Fazzary had a 45.
The golfers won over Waverly, Wednesday, May 4. The final score was 177-196. Fazzary had a 40 and Ely a 43.

Tennis
The Watkins Glen tennis team lost to Trumansburg, 5-0, Thursday, May 5.

Odessa-Montour
Softball
The Odessa-Montour softball team defeated Watkins Glen, Tuesday, May 3. The final score was 18-3.

Dundee-Bradford
Track and Field
Dundee Central School hosted a track and field invitational Friday, May 6.
Top finishers for the Dundee-Bradford BraveScots included:
Hallie Knapp won the shot put event with a 28' 9.75" throw and also the discus competition with a 105' result. Lily Hall finished first in the triple jump (34' 5") and was second in the girls 100 meter dash and also second in the long jump. Kendall Parker was second in the high jump and third in the girls 100 meter dash. Madison Hughes was third in the girls high jump event and also in the long jump.
For the boys, Camden Buchanan was first in the long jump (20' 2.5"), first in the triple jump (42' 2"), second in the 200 meter dash and third in the 100 meter dash. Hayden Erick was first in the boys outdoor pentathlon. Brett Watkins finished second in the 110 meter hurdles. Logan Buchanan took second in the high jump. Riley Teeter captured second in the shot put and also the discus. Alexander Leonard was third in the 3,000 meter steeplechase.

Softball
The Dundee-Bradford BraveScots defeated Watkins Glen 16-1, Friday, May 6. The softball team racked up 14 hits. Addie Kendall, Kailey Yeoman, Abigail Miller, Hannah Brace and Mikayla Schoffner each had multiple hits for the day. Yeoman and Kendall each collected three hits to lead BraveScots. Dundee-Bradford tore up the base paths, as four players stole at least two bases. Yeoman led the way with three.
The team also won big over Marcus Whitman, 22-1, Thursday, May 5. Nikki Peterson, Yeoman, Madison Sutryk, Mykenzie Clancey, and Brace all drove in runs. Sutryk and Schoffner each also added two hits.
The BraveScots also won against Honeoye, Monday, May 2. The final score was 9-8. Yeoman singled on a 1-1 count in the top of the seventh inning to score one run and break the eight-all tie. Miller went 3-for-4 at the plate and drove in four runs. Kendall also had three hits in the game.

Penn Yan
Boys Lacrosse
The Penn Yan boys lacrosse team had a high-scoring week with three victories.
The team defeated Bloomfield-Honeoye, 19-1, Saturday, May 7. Frank Ochoa and Teagen Fingar led the team with five goals and two assists and four goals and three assists, respectively. Carter Earl added three goals and one assist, while Oliver Connelly had two goals and three assists. Griffin Emerson recorded two saves and Will Thompson three in the goal.
The Mustangs beat Marcus Whitman, 12-3, Thursday, May 5. Ochoa earned four goals and one assist, Fingar had two goals and three assists, while Earl put in three goals and assisted three times. Emerson made nine saves.
Penn Yan also won against Midlakes-Red Jacket, 19-1, Tuesday, May 3. Fingar led the scoring onslaught with seven goals and one assist. Ochoa recorded four goals. Emerson and Thompson combined for two saves in the cage.

Girls Lacrosse
The Penn Yan girls lacrosse team fell to Horseheads, 11-10, Friday, May 6. Bailey Cooper scored five goals and had two assists. Corinne Barden added two goals and one assist. Hannah Parsons made six saves in the goal.
The Mustangs topped Marcus Whitman, Wednesday, May 4. The final score was 16-3. Kaley Griffin recorded five goals and one assist. Barden added four goals and one assist, while Cooper earned three goals and four assists. Parsons made four saves and Marion Wheeler had five.
The girls started off the week with a win over Newark-Midlakes, 15-1, Monday, May 2. Avery Castner led with four goals and one assist. Cooper had one goal and five assists. Parsons and Wheeler combined for seven saves in the game.

Baseball
The Penn Yan baseball team saw three wins last week. The boys defeated Midlakes, 15-0, Friday, May 6. Sophomore pitcher Brady Bouchard was dominant on the mound with a complete game, 15 strikeout performance while only allowing two hits and no walks. Bouchard had a perfect game into the sixth inning when Midlakes second baseman Brady Day broke up the no-hitter. Bouchard also led the Mustangs offensively with four hits including a home run and five RBI'S. Senior Alex Foster had three hits including a double, sophomores Liam Chapman and Reed Bouchard along with Riley Griffiths and Brigham Hansen each had two hits. The Mustangs offense combined for 15 runs on 17 hits.
The Mustangs hosted Mynderse, Tuesday, May 3, and came out victorious with a 7-2 win. Chapman did it all for the Mustangs, pitching a complete game and hitting his third home run of the season while also scoring three runs. Tyler Bouchard was 1-1 at the plate with an RBI. Foster had an RBI single, Reed Bouchard had two hits, Griffiths and Hansen also singled.
Penn Yan hosted Midlakes, Monday, May 2 and came away with an exciting 13-10 victory. Brady Emerson started on the mound for the Mustangs, pitching four innings allowing four runs on six hits but recorded eight strikeouts and no walks. Foster, Hansen, and Reed Bouchard pitched in relief but it took Chapman to come in and get the save for Penn Yan. The Mustang bats stayed hot with 15 hits in 30 at-bats. Chapman led the offense with three hits and scored three runs, Brady Bouchard was 2-for-5 with a home run and three runs scored. Griffiths was 3-for-3 with a run scored. Foster was 2-for-3 at the plate. Tyler Bouchard, Reed Bouchard, Hansen, and Joe Droney were all in the hit column for the Mustangs.

Softball
The Penn Yan softball team lost to Midlakes, Friday, May 6. The final score was 7-6.
The team won against Mynderse, 2-1, Tuesday, May 3. Giana Ficcaglia had 11 strikeouts on the mound. Bri Naprava had a triple for Penn Yan. Keuka Miranda Wiltberger was 2-for-3 at the plate. Dani Miller scored two runs.
The girls lost to Haverling, Monday, May 2. the final score was 12-1. Elle Harrison and Cadence Cummings each had singles in the game.

Track and Field
Penn Yan competed at the Hornell Invitational, Friday, May 6. Top finishers included:
James Tette won the boys 3,000 meter steeplechase and the 3,200 meter run. Adriana Rodriguez was first in the girls shot put and finished fourth in the discus throw. Anthony Sciallo earned second in the boys discus throw. Ava Vogt was fourth in the girls high jump. Anthony Wheeler took fifth in the boys 1,600 meter run. Jenna Reynolds was fifth in the girls 1,500 meter run.

Boys Tennis
Penn Yan defeated Avoca-Prattsburgh, 4-1, Saturday, May 7. Recording wins were Landon Spears, Alex Reyes-Leon, Kyle Wheeler and Collin Reagan-Jack Grabski.
The Mustangs topped Honeoye, Friday, May 6. The final score was 3-2. Spears, Reyes-Leon and Kyle Wheeler all won their singles matches.
Penn Yan fell to Newark, 4-1, Tuesday, May 3. The lone win was recorded by the doubles team of Reagan and Grabski.

Hammondsport
Baseball
The Hammondsport baseball team won over South Seneca/Romulus, Tuesday, May 3. The final score was 12-8.
The team lost to Scio/Friendship, 18-8, Monday, May 2.

Softball
The Hammondsport softball team defeated Jasper-Troupsburg/Canisteo-Greenwood, 16-8, Friday, May 6.
The Lakers lost to Addison, Wednesday, May 4. The final score was 20-2.

Track and Field
The Lakers competed at the Hornell Invitational, Friday, May 6. Top finishers included:
Luke Szathmary was third in the boys 110 meter hurdles. Nevin Davis was fourth in the 400 meter dash, seventh in the 100 meter dash and seventh in the high jump. Emmy O'Neill took seventh in the 2,000 meter girls steeplechase. Tristan Davis finished seventh in the 3,200 meter run.
