Meeting: Dundee Central School District board of education met for 45 minutes, June 11.
Attendance: All board members were present. Three members of the public were in the audience.
Action:   Three faculty members were granted tenure; Morgan Allen, Jennifer Maloney and Katie Needle. Teaching assistant Penny Nolan was also granted tenure.
• Due to newly available stabilization funds, the position of School Media Specialist that was abolished May 14 was rescinded. Eric Saile was reinstated to the position of School Media Specialist. Also rescinded was removing the position of Social Worker and Debra Combs was reinstated. A position of full time keyboard specialist was abolished as of July 1.
Discussion without action: the meeting was the last one for board of education member Irene Nowak. Board president Joseph Capurso said, “This is a happy and sad day for us. You have been a rose among a sea of thorns for us,” adding, “She always stood for the right thing and has been a strong advocate for the students.” A corkscrew willow, which was in the meeting room, will be planted on campus in recognition of Nowak’s 10 years of service on the board of education. Nowak said, “I’m thrilled. I was going to make a long speech. I appreciate the opportunity to have served with you; the faculty, students and the community. This is a blessing I have had.”
• Superintendent Nancy Zimar spoke about the Safety Committee meeting discussion of what else the district should or could be doing.  She said the group is looking at limiting the number of doors open in the morning and that some supervisor posts may be changed. Information on metal detectors and wands is also being investigated. Attendance will be taken at the beginning of classes rather than at the end.
• Board member John Frederick asked if there was a possibility of having a student member on the board, adding, “It might not be a bad idea to get some input. Some students might like to have a chance to voice their opinions.” Zimar said there was a student representative on the board in the 1990s. The matter will be brought to the July board of education meeting.
• Business manager Melissa Lawson reported on the comprehensive building status summary report. She said Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds Bruce Kendall had assembled the report. She said the next draft will include all items that were included in the Capital Project, but were put aside. Lawson called the report, “A snapshot of the needs of the facility and site. It is to give us a sense of where we are and where we should be.”
Appointments/resignations: Appointed Meghan Frein to the position of elementary Guidance Counselor, beginning Sept. 1.  Appointed Charles Mochamer as Athletic Director, effective July 1.
Upcoming meetings: the reorganizational meeting of the board of education will be at 7 p.m. July 14 in the public meeting room.
