Montour Falls village board 05/18/09Meeting: The Montour Falls village board met Monday, May 18 for two hours.Attendance: Trustee Phil Smith was the only board member absent. There were three members of the public present. Action: The board approved taking on Larson Design Group to help the village obtain stimulus funding for projects. Trustee Jim Howell said he was very comfortable working with them. The board also accepted a State Environmental Quality Review of water projects. The reviews were needed for a grant application. • Permission was given to the Lake Country Players to use the Fireman’s Fairgrounds for a fundraising car wash Saturday, June 20. Jane Daum, with the LCP, said the group had liability insurance. • The board approved putting unpaid water/sewer charges for eight different properties back into the owners’ taxes. • The board received a request for a refund on a marine dock rental. Kelley said the letter to the village stated the person had recently lost their job and could not afford the space. The board agreed, but the boat has to be out of the marina, if it is currently docked, before the refund would be given. Discussion without action: The board heard from Randy Deal, operator of the village’s Web site. He described some of the things he could do to update the site. Kelley said she wanted to include a page of businesses in the village. • Trustee Phil Gillemot spoke about designs for a kiosk to be placed at the She-Qua-Ga Falls park. He said he knew of a grant the village could apply for that would cover 50 percent of the cost for a kiosk. At the meeting he had estimated prices ranging from $12,000 to $20,000 for the structure. Gillemot added there was a plastic and metal version that would be cheaper. The board had some issue with the eight foot height of the kiosk in the designs Gillemot had. Howell said he did like the idea though. Kelley asked if at the falls was the best place to get the most people to see it. She added she did not want it to become something that was not kept up, like the kiosk at Aunt Sarah’s Falls. • Kelley explained the Raymond Street family housing project sewer expense came in higher than what owner William Francin paid. Clerk Suzanne Casselberry explained Francin had initially paid $6,600, but the end engineering fee turned out to be $10,724.95. The village will charge Francin for the difference. Upcoming meetings: The next regular board meeting will be Monday, June 1 at 7 p.m. |
