Happy Holidays! The Observer and the REVIEW&EXPRESS each published a combined holiday edition with the dates of Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2024 and Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2024. There is not a new paper for Dec. 25. The next new edition is Wednesday, Jan. 1.
The office is closed on Monday, Dec. 23 and will reopen Thursday, Jan 2.

Montour festival and parade are coming

MONTOUR FALLS--This weekend marks the unofficial start to summer in Schuyler County with the annual Montour Falls Fire Department Festival and Parade. Admission is free, with the carnival grounds opening at 6 p.m. on June 8. Chicken BBQ will be served on June 9, beginning at 6 p.m. and on June 10, beginning at 11 a.m. Bingo begins at 6 p.m. every night. Raffles will be offered on June 8 and June 10.
Enjoy live music – with complimentary admission – on the Geiger’s Marine Services Stage. Jam with energetic performances, catchy melodies, and insightful lyrics offered by The Variables at 6 p.m. on June 8, Bad Bear on June 9 at 7 p.m., and Still Kickin on June 10 at 7:30 p.m.
In addition to the traditional carnival rides and games, the event features Bags and Beers, a cornhole tournament, on June 10. On-site registration for both the advanced and backyard categories starts at 9 a.m., with bags flying at 10. Teams cannot pre-register for this double-elimination event, and spots are limited to 15 teams per category. Although some bags will be available, organizers recommend teams bring their own. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three teams in both categories.
The parade steps off promptly at 5:00 p.m. on June 10, proceeding down Main Street and ending at the Carnival grounds on South Seneca Street. In addition to floats and antique cars, trucks, and tractors, at least seven bands are expected to perform in the annual Parade of Bands, including the Montour Falls Fire Department Band, the Addison Knights High School Band, Towpath Volunteers Fife and Drum, Caledonian Highlanders Bagpipe Band, Prattsburgh High School Marching Band, Corning-Painted Post High School Marching Hawks and the Fairport Fire Department Band.
Ride Information: Tickets will be $1.50 each. 25 Tickets for $35.00. Bracelets will be available every day and will cost $30.00. Thursday and Friday bracelets will be good from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Saturday the bracelets will be good all day.  Rides will be running from Noon - 4 p.m. and will be shut down during the parade and reopen from 6 p.m. to close.
