BUFFALO-The Penn Yan boys varsity lacrosse team beat Akron in the New York State Public High School Athletic Association regional game, Saturday, June 4. Penn Yan was ahead every quarter en route to their 17-6 victory. Austin Fingar led the Mustangs by contributing on 12 goals, scoring four and assisting on eight. Sean Emerson scored six goals and had two assists. Craig Gerhardt found the back of the net five times, while Tate Stewart and Austin Blumbergs both scored once. Goalie Gage Ponsetti made 12 saves in the game. Penn Yan now advances to the NYSPHSAA semifinal game against Cazenovia. It will be played Wednesday, June 8 at Cicero-North Syracuse high school. Game time is 5:30 p.m.
