Watkins girls beat Dryden, Newfield in tourney

WATKINS GLEN-The Watkins Glen girls varsity basketball team won the Melissa B. Wilson Basketball Tournament, Sunday, Dec. 20. The girls beat Newfield on Saturday to advance to the final game against Dryden on Sunday.
The Senecas topped Dryden 39-29 in the championship game and brought their season record to 6-1.
Amanda Pike recorded 13 points, Allison Teed added nine points and Madison Myers contributed six.
Clara Chedzoy had 10 rebounds and Mariah Gonzalez and Teed each registered five.
The girls won the first round of the tournament against Newfield, 37-33.
Pike scored 11 points, with 11 rebounds and nine steals. Gonzalez had eight points and six rebounds, while Teed added six points. Chedzoy and Katherine Meehan both scored four points.
Also on Saturday, Dr. Jaclyn Conklin was inducted into the Watkins Glen Sports Hall of Fame for achievements during and after her time at Watkins Glen.
