Area teams compete in post season


Meehan, Castellaneta win sectional titles
OWEGO--The Watkins Glen girls varsity swim team took second place in the Section IV Class C championships, while Katherine Meehan won the 100 yard breaststroke competition and Lexi Castellaneta won first in the one meter diving, Wednesday, Nov. 5, to Saturday, Nov. 8.
Meehan swam with a time of 1:10.04, beating the second place Lansing swimmer's time of 1:10.48. Meehan was also seventh in the 200 yard IM (2:32.90). Victoria Wixson was second in the 200 yard IM (2:20.30) and second in the 100 yard backstroke (1:03.00). Emma Allington finished second in the 50 yard freestyle (25.92) and fourth in the 100 yard freestyle (57.87)
Liza Carnes was sixth in the 500 yard freestyle (6:07.25) and seventh in the 200 yard freestyle (2:16.34).
Madeleine Ross took eigth in the 500 yard freestyle (6:11.22). Peighton Cervoni finished seventh in the 50 yard freestyle (27.79). Halle Phillips took eighth in the 200 yard freestyle (2:18.63).
The 400 yard freestyle relay team (Allington, Cervoni, Meehan, and Wixson) placed fourth in 3:58.59. The 200 yard medley relay team (Wixson, Meehan, Allington, and Cervoni) was third in 1:56.67. The 200 yard freestyle relay team (Elise Allington, Phillips, Sara Gardner, and Bridgette Guild) was sixth with 1:57.22.
Castellaneta was first in the one meter diving with 456.15 points. Hannah Pulis was third with 327.65.
Cross country
The Watkins Glen girls varsity cross country team placed sixth overall for Class C in the New York State High School Athletics Association championship, Saturday, Nov. 8.
Watkins competed against 10 other schools in Class C. Cambria Weeden led the girls in 71st place (21:36.8), followed by Taylor Kennard in 72nd (21:40.6). Brooke Shaffer was 74th (21:41.6). Kai Sutterby took 81st (21:48.7), while Maggie Bond was 82nd (21:48.9) and Julia Reilly finished 99th (22:24.5). Clara Chedzoy was 112th (23:13.7).
For the boys, Patrick Hazlitt finished 48th (17:30.3).

Odessa-Montour takes eighth in sectional swimming finals
OWEGO-The Odessa-Montour girls varsity swim team competed in the Section IV Class C finals, Saturday, Nov. 8, and finished eighth overall.
Emelia Paulisczak took seventh in the 500 free with a personal record of 6:10.31. She also placed ninth in the 200 free with a personal record of 2:15.19. Tori Reese was seventh in the 100 breast with 1:19.21 and 13th in the 100 fly with 1:18.84. Syria Tague was ninth in the 100 free (1:02.39) and also improved her finish in the 100 back to ninth (1:11.74).
The 200 medley relay team (Reese, McKenna Carberry, Tague, and Emma Raymond) took seventh in 2:16.45, the 200 free relay team (Raymond, Paulisczak, Reese, and Tague) took seventh in 1:57.50, and the 400 free relay team (Paulisczak, Gabby Cain, Lovona Carrigan, and Maddie Lodge) took eighth.

Lakers end season with only loss
GENESEO-The Hammondsport girls varsity volleyball team ended the season with their first and only loss of the season, Tuesday, Nov. 4. The Lakers were defeated by Batavia-Notre Dame, 3-1, in the Class D regional playoffs. The final scores were 25-15, 25-12, 18-25, 25-13. Lahra Weber had six kills, while Tanessa Whitney had four.
Hammondsport ended the season with a 19-1 record.
