AQUINAS--The Dundee varsity football team lost to the Bishop Kearney Kings 22-12 in class D sectional semi-finals Saturday, Oct. 25. The two high scoring teams were reduced to a defensive struggle, as both defenses were able to create turnovers throughout the game. Both teams had a regular season record of 6-1. The Scots received the opening kickoff on their 36-yard line. After utilizing the rushing game, senior running back Dakota Hanes scored on a 19-yard touchdown rush. After a failed two-point conversion, the Scots led 6-0. Kearney started their first offensive drive from their own 13-yard line. Using a balanced mix of passing and running, Kearney drove to midfield, but after a holding penalty, the Kings punted on fourth and 15.

The Scots started their second drive from their own 23. After going three and out, the Scots punted the ball back to the Kings. After Kearney drove into Dundee territory, the Kings turned the ball over on downs after failing to convert on fourth and eight. The Scots also failed to put points on the board, punting from their 25 to their own 33-yard line. Kearney would capitalize on the good field position with a touchdown pass, taking an 8-6 lead after a successful two-point conversion. Jon Huber took the following kickoff to the house, but a holding penalty brought the ball back to their own 19-yard line. An interception gave Kearney the ball at the Dundee 41-yard line. Christopher Cramer would get the ball right back with an interception of his own on the Dundee 14. Yet another second quarter interception gave the ball to Kearney on their own 37-yard line. Offensive pass interference forced Kearney to punt on fourth and long to the BK 44 with less than a minute left in the half. The Scots failed to capitalize before time expired, but a roughing the passer call gave the Scots one more shot to score from the BK 18. A pass to Cole Hartman was just out of reach in the corner of the end zone, so Kearney took the 8-6 lead into the half. Bishop Kearney recovered an onside kickoff attempt on the Dundee 49-yard line to start the third quarter. The Kings drove all the way to the five-yard line, but threw an interception to Devin Jensen on fourth and three. The Scots turned the ball over themselves on a fumble, giving the Kings the ball on the Dundee 48. The Kings extended their lead to 16-6 on a 10-yard touchdown pass and two-point conversion. Dundee started from their own 33-yard line, but punted after going three and out to the Kearney 29. Kearney followed suit, punting the ball back to the Dundee 37. A first play interception gave the Kings the ball at the Dundee 48-yard line. A 43-yard touchdown pass further increased the Kearney lead to 22-6. The Scots started at their own 44-yard line, marching down the field with their passing game and rushes by quarterback Justin Neu. Brennan Krall's one-yard touchdown rush put the score at 22-12 Bishop Kearney with 4:51 left in the game. The Scots recovered the following onside kick on the Kearney 49. An overthrown pass that was intercepted by Kearney followed by several flags led to the Scots retaining the ball on a pass interference call on Kearney. There were several penalties called on both teams during the drive. The Scots drove to the BK 22 before throwing a fourth and five interception. The Kings would run out the clock to seal the victory 22-12 over the Scots.
