Edward W. Osborne, 63, of Watkins Glen passed away suddenly Oct. 3, 2024.
Strong, wise, ambitious, outgoing—these are just a few of the words to describe a man who was taken about 20 years too soon, but leaving behind the most impressionable memories a family could ask for.
As you fly high watching over us, just know we will always remember everything you did for us, and cherish the life you gave us.
You will always be remembered by your devoted wife, best friend and partner, Janet; your two children and your two added children; your six grandsons, and your four granddaughters.

Rose Marie Smith, 91, passed peacefully Monday morning, Oct. 14, 2024, with her daughter by her side. She is now with her beloved husband Kenneth Smith.
Rose was born April 11, 1933, to Albert and Anna Hess. Rose grew up with eight sisters and one brother in the small town of Dundee, where she met and fell in love with Kenneth Webster Smith and married on Nov. 8, 1954. Mr. Dickerson was a member and Union Steward of the U.F.C.W.-United Food & Commerce Workers Union, a member of the NRA and in his youth the F.F.A. Future Farmers of America. In his spare time he enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating and gardening with his green thumb. But most of all, he loved his family, and was “The Corner Stone of the Family.”
He is loved and will be forever missed by his wife of 60 years, Carol A. Dickerson at home; a son, Mark W. (Debbie Stevens) Dickerson of Wayne; three daughters, Jo’el J. (Larue) McAfee of Tyrone, Stacie R. Dickerson of Avoca and Cindy M. Nolan Paul Ernhout, 32, of Tyrone passed away peacefully Oct. 5, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Nolan was born Jan. 25, 1992, the beloved son of Anita (Miller) and the late Paul Ernhout.
Nolan attended Bradford Central School and Emmanuel Baptist Academy and was homeschooled. He received his GED and later attended Tompkins Cortland Community College, earning his associate’s degree in general science. Nolan was an avid reader and writer and he loved to journal. He was an outdoorsman who liked to hunt, fish and spend time on the Ernhout farm, caring for the animals and perfecting his hobby of growing hot peppers. He enjoyed summers at the family cottage on Seneca Lake, where he contentedly spent his last days with family and friends.
Nolan loved to travel and wanted to see the world, and in his too-short life, he spent time in the U.S., Canada and the Caribbean. He explored many major cities and enjoyed going on several cruises. He appreciated visiting Acadia National Park, Mammoth Cave National Park and the Outer Banks. Nolan was a foodie; he was a passionate sous chef, who loved to prepare a variety of cuisines and gather family and friends to share in a good meal. Nolan was a football fanatic and a Pittsburgh Steelers aficionado. We would be remiss to fail to mention that the Steelers are tied for the most Super Bowl wins ever by an NFL team, 6 Rings!
Nolan served for years as a deacon at Glen Baptist Church where he was also a youth leader, a Sunday school teacher, and a sound room technician. He was on the board of Lamoka Baptist Camp, where he also worked in his youth. Nolan was compassionate and he loved to support and pray for his friends and family. He worked as a life coach and offered support to many people throughout the country through the Billy Graham Foundation. Nolan was blessed with a truly thankful, humble, selfless and generous spirit. He had a quick wit, a great sense of humor, and loved to laugh. Nolan was a devoted son, brother, nephew, brother-in-law and uncle. He especially adored his nephews, Blake and Luke, who brought so much joy to his life.
Despite battling Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy from birth, it never diminished Nolan’s indomitable spirit for life. He loved life and was always grateful and empathetic towards others; he was more interested in the well-being of others than his own, and he was an eternal optimist. He made the most of every day. Nolan drew his strength from his faith in God. Not a day would go by without him reading, memorizing and talking about the Bible, and doing his very best to emulate his Lord and Savior, whom he loved. Nolan was greatly loved by his family and friends and he will be missed beyond words. We look forward to the day we will see him again. Our lives are forever better because of Nolan.
Nolan is survived by his loving mother, Anita Ernhout, and identical twin brother, Ethan Ernhout of Tyrone; brother, Ryan (Jenna) Ernhout of Corning; two sisters, Carrie Ernhout (John Forde) of Corning and Mattie (Trevor) Sutherland of Reading; adoring nephews, Blake and Luke Sutherland; uncles and aunts, Keith Miller, Gary (Martha) Miller, Brian (Stacey) Miller, Neil Miller, Stephen Ernhout and Karen Ernhout; cousins, Kristen (Mikkel) Miller-Debenedetto, Alaina (Kevin) Miller-O’Keefe, Michael Miller, Heirut Miller, Caleb Miller, Isaac Miller, Jeremiah Miller, Mariah (Pat) Ernhout-Fegley, Chelsea (Dave) Ernhout-Booth and Adrienne Ernhout; and second cousins, Noah, Weston, Connor, Callie and Rowan O’Keefe, Ben and Mila DeBenedetto, Lily Fegley, Addie and Eli Ernhout. He is predeceased by his father, Paul Ernhout; grandparents, Warren and Norva Miller, Howard and Helen Ernhout, his sister, Hayley Beth, his cousin, Elizabeth Miller, his aunt, Susan Ernhout, and his uncle, Mark Connell.
Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours Saturday, Oct. 19, from 10 a.m. until noon, followed immediately by a Celebration of Life. Services will be held at Glen Baptist Church, 3311 Reading Road, Watkins Glen. Family and friends are welcome to attend the interment at the Tyrone Union Cemetery, Tyrone, following the service.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in honor of Nolan to his home church, Glen Baptist; to the Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy Neurology Clinic at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester; or Samaritan’s Purse International Crisis and Disaster Relief.

Donn Medd Gaebelein passed away peacefully in his home Oct. 9, 2024, at the age of 96. He was born July 12, 1928, in Brooklyn, New York to Frank Ely Gaebelein and Dorothy (Medd) Gaebelein.
Donn graduated from The Stony Brook School, Stony Brook, New York in 1945, from Princeton University in 1949, and then obtained the master’s degree from Columbia University. He married the love of his life, Norma Louise Allen. Their devoted 72-year marriage inspired all those who knew them. Donn yearned to be with his pre-deceased wife, Norma and daughter, Paula Seligson, and is now in the eternal embrace of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Donn was noble in character and humble by nature. A deeply committed Christian, serving Jesus Christ was the main focus of his personal and professional life. Among his long distinguished career in education as a teacher, coach, and administrator, Donn served as headmaster and president of two premier private college preparatory schools for more than 30 years. His leadership always was in humble service to others. The number of students and colleagues who regarded him as a mentor are legion. As head of school, Donn was a realist and strategic thinker, with an eye to the future.
As headmaster of The Stony Brook School, Donn steered the school through the turbulent 1960s, increased diversity, and oversaw the inclusion of young women with co-education. In Atlanta, Georgia, as president of the Westminster schools, he actively promoted a diverse staff, faculty and student body. A substantial endowment was established, and physical plant improved.
In his retirement, Donn served as treasurer of The Rock Stream Presbyterian Church and oversaw the Rock Stream Cemetery.
Up to the day he passed, Donn began every day in devotions. He was a lifelong reader and scholar of scripture, literature, history and current events. Just days before he passed, he recited, from memory, stanzas of his favorite poem, “Elegy Written in a Country Churchyard” by Thomas Gray. As an avid sports lover, baseball and golf were his passions. He was a lifelong scratch golfer; at age 90 he shot a 78 at The Willow Creek Golf Course. He was a great and good man, and will be dearly missed.
Donn is survived by his daughter Laura Mantius (Peter), son Thad Gaebelein (Elektra) and son Frank Gaebelein; former daughter-in-law, Monika Gaebelein; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Those who wish to remember Donn in a special way may make gifts in his memory to the Food Bank of Southern Tier, 388 Upper Oakwood Ave., Elmira, NY 14903, 607-796-6061.
Services will be held at the convenience of the family next summer. Arrangements entrusted to the Baird Funeral Home, 36 Water St. Dundee. Online condolences can be sent by visiting www.bairdfuneralhomedundee.com .

Obituaries/Memorial/Death Notices week of Oct. 2:
Early in the morning on Aug. 27, Cindy Stillman, a beloved friend to many in the Finger Lakes area, passed from this earth. She was a vital member of the Wisdom’s Goldenrod community in Valois, known for her hospitality, cheerful spirit, and caring for every person and animal she met. Her decades-long meditation practice and study of perennial philosophy permeated everything she did.
Cindy was born Feb. 10, 1936 in Illinois, and soon afterwards her family moved to Akron, Ohio. After graduation from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, she visited San Francisco and fell in love with the place. She stayed until she needed to return to Akron to care for her ailing mother, and she then took a job in Atlanta.
In the 1970s she moved to Valois to study with her teacher Anthony Damiani and the Wisdom’s Goldenrod community. She worked in student services at Cornell University for many years and served as hospitality coordinator for Wisdom’s Goldenrod after retirement.
Cindy’s adventuresome spirit led her to take pilgrimages to holy sites in Turkey and India. Closer to home, she explored the philosophy of Paul Brunton, His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Sri Shankaracharya, and other great beings whose teachings kept her inner flame alight.
In her later years, Cindy was cared for graciously by the staff at Longview in Ithaca, Bethany Village in Horseheads, and Seneca View in Montour Falls. All of us who loved her are profoundly grateful for the love and dedication of people at these facilities.
Cindy is predeceased by her father and mother, Charles Stillman and Ruth Davis Stillman; her sister Robbie Stillman, her friend and mentor Joan Dawson Carlson, her cherished dog companion Skye, her cats Kingsley, Toby, and Gemini; and many other dear animal friends. Many of her friends from Wisdom’s Goldenrod have also departed, and we know that Cindy would want us to remember Paul Brunton’s words, “We will all meet again.”
