Barrington town board 05/13/09
Meeting: The Barrington town board met Wednesday, May 13 for one hour and 35 minutes.
Attendance: All board members were present. There were 10 members of the public in the audience.
Action: The board voted to approve the senior citizen property tax exemption requirement changes. Assessor Tony DeStephen said the maximum income would change from $14,000 a year to $21,000 a year. He added this would put the town on same level as the county.
Discussion without action: The board took no action towards passing Benton’s subdivision law as a temporary one for the town. However, after much discussion Gary Boardman, code enforcement officer, said he would look into getting sample water laws for the next meeting. That type of law would require a well on a property before development can begin. He said he recommended it. Before the water law came up, the board discussed their opinions of temporarily passing Benton’s law. Supervisor Eileen Farnan and board member Freeman Freeman both said they had problems with passing another town’s subdivision law as their own. Farnan said she felt this way because the landscapes of Barrington and Benton are very different. Board member Fred Wright said he would pass it, but with some changes. However, he said it seemed like the planning board would then be working on too many projects at once. Board member Nate Olney said he would vote for the temporary subdivision law if planning board member Sue Lange supported it.
• Lange reported on the planning board’s recommendations for changing allowable sign sizes. The planning board wants to decrease the allowed size down to 40 square feet.. The town board said they preferred just changing the number to 50 square feet for all signs within the town.
• Chris Warriner, Emergency Management Services coordinator, spoke to the board about N1H1 swine flu, as requested by Freeman. She said as of the meeting there were no confirmed cases in Yates County.
• Farnan reported that the Keuka Lake Watershed Land Use Planning Guide has been printed.
• Farnan also reported that the justice audit is complete. As of now, the state is requiring monthly audit reports.
• The town’s Cleanup Day will be Saturday, May 30 starting at 10 a.m.
• The board will hold the annual highway inspection May 26.
Upcoming meetings: The next regular meeting will be Wednesday, May 27 at 7 p.m. |
