Coffey records win in World Rowing ChampionshipsCHUNGJU, South Korea – The United States four (Olivia Coffey, Felice Mueller, Tessa Gobbo and Emily Huelskamp) competed at the World Rowing Championships Friday, Aug. 30 and captured the gold medal. The team came from behind and took control halfway down the course to bring home the win. “It was hard,” said Olivia Coffey of Watkins Glen, as the crew made its way to the pre-ceremony area. The medal was the first of three won by the U.S. on Friday. “You never want to be behind. But we talked a lot about the Canadian team going out fast in the first 500, first 750, trying to get a lead,” said women’s four coach Rob Weber. “I didn’t expect it to be the same way it was on Tuesday, and I don’t think they panicked. I think they did a really good job of keeping their poise and they kept driving and driving and pulled it out. It went pretty much the way we expected.” |
